Actually, what's wrong with shifting at more than 9000rpm? My car doesn't cut fuel until 9400rpm; you could delay the shift to 5th by driving up to 104-105mph at 9400rpm even if the power curve is heading downwards.

I think most cars shut off at about 9000-9100 rpm....... did you run yours on a dyno or how do you know it shuts off at 9400?

I read somewhere our fuel cutout was 9200rpm. Not sure if this is true or not.

XViper, whom I met in person this past weekend, thinks the 4.77's can give a supercharged S a run for its money.

I really need to get things coordinated here.

Stay tuned.

With qualifications:
-S/C'd car has stock rear gears.
-in 0-60 mph and in 1/4 mile.
-the driver must NOT be a "slouch" in the shifting department.

Obviously, the S/C'd car with stock gearing will be able to achieve a higher top end than the non S/C'd (stock gearing) car while the 4.77 car will redline just over 140 mph. In this scenario - NO CONTEST!

When you're doing this, do you have the option to leave 6th alone so as to not affect highway cruising? Actually I'd consider something like this for gears 1-3 or 1-4 but leaving the top alone. I think if I'm at the top of the lower gears it's because I'm trying to pick up speed in a hurry, where in higher gears that's not as likely - I'm not interested in much past a ton without a roll bar.

Final Drive gears (ie. ring and pinion) do not go in the tranny. They go in the differential and thus, affects all of the tranny gears.

xviper: thanks, I've never done anything in that part of a car so I'm pretty ignorant about it. Are you saying that people don't generally / can't change out the actual transmission gears, so they just change one of the drivetrain gears (further "downstream" from the engine)? That seems a shame for the reasons I mentioned before. But I guess it's a lot cheaper/easier to get at the differential.

Not generally, no. I suppose with enough money and desire, anything is possible but in our case, not really feasible due to the small number of these cars produced.

Dave,

Was just thinking about our conversation. If Honda does change the gears for the S2200 then we will be able to change our tranny gearing around. But it's a big if.
