I know there is volumes of info on this but here is my situation. I got my car 10/99 Vin 1502 and to date have not experienced any grinding in any gear. My next door neighbor got the exact same car and neither of us knew we ordered the same car I was #1 and he was #2! He is getting the 1-2 fix and they found 3-4 gear problems they are
going to fix. I called dealers service manager who is very upfront and professional and he told me that if I dont have a problem dont worry and unless the grind can be duplicated they wont fix it. However, he said they will take care of it if it occurs in the future. Thats fine, but what happens if it comes later after warranty expires. Since there was a service bulletin notice on this issue, do you think they would still honor this repair or do you think that if it hasnt shown up after 20,000 miles I am out of the woods? Maybe I should consider the Extended Warranty now in case this problem is not covered. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

S2KRAY-

If you get this grind when out of the warrantee period it may be covered under goodwill, but I don't think Honda of America is really responsible for any fix that is not covered under warrantee.

If you don't have the grind after having the car for over 6 months, you don't have the grind. May people here have the 1-2 grind within 500 miles, and it is apparent that something isn't quite right. If you develop the grind out of the warrantee period, you are probably not driving the car correctly. Personally I hope you never develop that problem, but at the same time, clutches, brake pads, bushings, and to a lesser extent engines, synchros, gearboxes, etc. are all ultimately wear items.

I got over 20,000 on mine and no grind. I dont think we ever will see the grind in our cars. Just be happy they dont have to tear your tranny appart and possibly screw something up.

Could the grind be related to the way you shift; i.e., how fast or how hard?

It is repeatable for those that shift super fast! One guy said your beating the syncros. Another said he could do it on command at 7,000 little above nothing little below nothing. Though if you go a little slower during the shift it was fine too.

Only grinds I get are being lazy!

I never knew when mine was going to grind. It did it several times above 7500, and even under 5000 several times. It did it on up-shifts and now and then on down-shifts. The car and the air could be warm or cool. The last time it did it before the fix I was going very slow in a parking lot and did a slow easy shift into 2nd at about 2300 and it did it. Go figure.

I think I had as bad a grind problem as anyone and I can tell you it did not correlate to rpm or shift speed. It would grind at 3000 rpm as easily as 9000 and with slow stick movement or fast.

But it only happens with a warm box and is only bad when the ambient temperature is high and the car has been run pretty hard getting the box hot. It clearly is a clearance problem and if your car made it through a summer without a grind it is probably not going to develop it. On the other hand if it has not been driven hard in higher temperatures yet, you don

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I feel pretty comfortable that I dont have a problem but it's reassuring to get this feedback from all of your experiences with this problem. [QUOTE]Originally posted by cdelena:
