So you won't rip on a car before 600 miles. But you want to test drive one. Are you going to test drive the 2006 model to compare it to your pre 2006? How will you drive it? Do you reasonably expect to make a judgement of the 2006 without taking it to redline? You'll redline a NEW car...but you won't buy it because someone else has driven it that way. But most S2000 owners won't buy one that has miles on it. That's the real trouble dealers have to encounter. We don't care about you test driving it or how you do it - but most potential buyers will rip into a car...and buy a different one because "it has less miles " or one that hasn't been driven hard. Although moments prior they just abused what will be someone elses car. How many potential 2006 S2000 test drivers who own prior models will test drive it actually intending to purchase it? I'm thinking slim to few. Most just are wanting to see what the fuss over the DBW is. So your local dealership wil have one S2000 with a ton of miles on it that will never sell becasue no one wants one that's been driven hard or has too many miles. Thus the confusion begins.

I did get to drive a preporduction 2006 a while back at a press event. Most current owners won't notice a thing. You have a little easier time modulating the accelerator because the DBW is more precise.

Well for me, DBW's effect will be felt everywhere, not just at redline.

As for buying a car that I've test driven, I will, IF it has low miles. I don't beat the sh%t out of a car on test drives though. I've driven AP1s and AP2s so there is no need to beat on an 06 before I buy one.

I wouldnt buy a car that you test drove like that. It's very bad for the s2k engine to let it rip before 600 miles on the engine. Just a heads up!
That depends on how you want to break in your car. That's just how they recommend you break it in.

no matter what you do for break in, keep in mind that the day the car got to the dealership some ass in the service department took it to redline before you ever saw the car.

Buying an S is like choosing a spouse. You don't want the one that everyone takes for a "test drive."

I imagine that the TBW response will be most noticable (if it is noticable) when you first start-out at low RPM, when throttle and clutch control are most critical. I suppose that it might also be critical when releasing the throttle to clutch and shift and then for matching throttle to speed after shifting. Although I have no experience with TBW, it seems like VTEC to redline could be the least sensitive parts of the RPM range when it comes to TBW. Oh well, I was hoping that someone with some AP2 time might have driven the 06 by now and could give a report on the TBW-feel.

Wow, I'm amazed that Chicago got the S's before California did. I'm waiting for them to arrive so I can go test one and decide whether or not to buy a 2006 or 2005. They're not supposed to get them until sometime next week. Has anyone been quoted any prices yet? If so, let me know where so I can go hit them up.
Thanks
