I said this on other threads as well.
if you are trying to decide between STi and S2000, buy STi. unless you are truely fall in love with it, you can't appreciate the car anyway.

I traded in my S2k for an STi because I need to get down to 1 car and wanted something practical and sporty. I would definitely buy an S2000 over an STi if it is going to be your weekend toy. No question about it. The S2000 is a lot more fun to drive (unless its cold/snowing/raining).

If you have to ask, buy the STi.

Get the STI.. I have s2k and was about to get the STI but the trade in value was crap. If you are going to track your car a lot then get the s2k.. But other than that, how often are you going to use the awesome handling on the s2k? I dont think the sti looks that bad, except the wing and the hood scoop.[i know its for the intercooler] That car is just a beast. The s2k has no torque whatsoever and feels so slow off the line.. get the sti!

Im 16 and I was deciding between the Sti and S2000 also, but decided to get the S2K b/c insurance was too expensive for someone my age for sti. After I got it, I compared it to my friends 04 WRX. Even though he kills me in races, I still think the S is better.

I haven't heard of STi as a weekend car, but I have heard of S as a weekend car because it's a fun little convertible that looks good. But if I were you, I would get the STi.
You can get a leftover '04 S for about $30k out the door and then add a supercharger to it for $5k more, but it still wouldn't be or feel as fast as the STi.
STi also has a great handling. Unless you auto-x all the time, you won't notice that much difference between the handling of the two. Take it through the twisties and most novice drivers can't tell that much difference.
The build quality and reliability issues are very similiar. They are pretty much top of the line quality in each brand. Looks are very subjective, they are both very nice looking vehicles. STi without the huge wing and the huge air scoop is a sleeper, more of a modded Impreza. Why buy the STi in the first place, just mod an Impreza. Heck, some people want the upgraded STi look on their WRXs.
So, if I were you, I would get the STi.
I miss my S so much...

to address some individual points:
i'm 6'3" and fit judt fine in my '00 S2000
i live in northern indiana, and the S is fine from april-october=7 months
you stated you are trying to decide on a WEEKEND TOY.
while i have owned and driven some VERY fast cars ('00 Mustang GT, supercharged, 398whp), nothing compares to 9000rpm with the top down. nothing.
i've driven the evo, wrx (unfortunetly not the STi), and i own an audi A4 quattro 1.8t, and while awd does provide very stable handling, the light weight and rwd of the S2000=a car that can really be tossed, spun and flung around.
i think if you had to own one car year round in chicago, the STi would make the most sense. but you stated you wanted a WEEKEND TOY. to me that's pretty cut-and-dried. i know after owning the S2000, nothing else will satisfy the senses, with the exception of possibly the Ferrari Modena roadster... the only thing better than an I4 at 9000rpm would be a V8 at 8000rpm!
seriously, i could see myself growing bored of a sedan trying to serve as weekend excitement. and like someone else already mentioned, the STi ain't gonna turn heads when you pull up to the saturday night venue the way the S2000 will.

The choice is not that difficult. You have a daily driver, I was in the same position a week ago. I got the S2k. The WRX STi is great but about a 1000 kids think so too (I'm 43 with two kids also). I like driving my S2k and not seeing one every 5 minutes.
