05-S2000 or Subaru STI ?

Since this will be a purely pleasure car, get the S2000...a lot more fun than a glorified family sedan Before finally deciding on the S, I was looking very seriously at the EVO (same class as the STi) and it just wasn't anywhere near as fun to drive. I'm 6'3" and have no problem fitting in the S. You and your wife should really just go test-driving, looking online and through brochures can only get you so far.

non-biased is tough, but I'll try my best.
In my perspective, a sti or even an evo is a toy car, a toy car for a young kid that is. I have yet to see a laywer, doctor, investment banker, etcetera drive a toy car. A s2k is a toy car in a sense, but it can also be a luxury sports sedan. BTW, I am only 20 so believe me, I love the sti and evo very much.
Yourself, being a 37 year, I would unquestionably go with the s2k. This is your weekend car.

Great comments so far
Is the S2000 REALLY more fun to drive???

But, if it is raining, I love the awd action.

if you decide not to get the s, check out mitsu's evo 8 before you purchase an sti. the evo is not as fast as the sti in a straight line, but will it will out handle the sti any day of the week. the 4g63 in the evo is much more mod friendly, and can handle more power on the stock block.

I just bought 05 S2K and have 02 WRX Wagon. I have 2 kids as well. our 3rd car is Odyssey van. I think WRX( I know STi is more powerful) is very functional and still think it is a very well built car. We were in Yosemite and cruised in 5 feet of snow.
But after driving S2K tops down last few week, I look forward to drive it everyday... it is a go cart as people describe it.
I am planning to sell my WRX... my 2c

So far, all opinions are non-biased. However, we are S2K owners, we love it so much, that's why we bought it. You should also ask the same question at Subaru STI forum as well.
My opinion is if you think for you and your family, do not buy the S2K. However, if you buy the STI, down the road about 6 months, you might be bored with it because, the STI is just like many other sedans out there. It might be a little quicker but that was it, not think else. The S2K is classy, good looking and a roadster.

Another thing to consider is the climate where you live. If you live in a warm climate I would say the S wins hands down because you would get the most out of the top down experience. If you live somewhere with harsh winters than you may see the S parked half of the year whereas the STi would be capable year round due to the AWD.
Just a thought.
