Default 05-S2000 or Subaru STI ?

I am in the mood for a weekend toy.
Before I spend 35 large, I want to make sure that I dont make a mistake!
I am 39, married with 7 & 4 year old daughters.
I have an every day car.
I am looking for a:

1. Quality automobile.
2. It has to accelerate like a S.O.B.
3. It has to handle like a Go-cart.
4. Nice looking.

I need honest opinions of you guys.

This is the way I see it so far:

1. Both are quality autos.(Maybe the honda is a little better?)
2.The STI has alot more thrust. 300 hp/300 tq.
3.Which car handles better? I dont know. Inform me!
4.I think the S2000 has the edge in looks, but the STI does look very aggressive
and has four doors and a trunk.

I realize that the s is a convertible, which is a plus, but I am 6' tall and my wife
says I would look funny in the s2000 because of my size.

Right now, I am "leaning slightly" towards the STI because of the extra room and
the Extra thrust(which is alot!)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys

I have both a '04 wrx, and a '01 s2000. I am just over 6', and fit in the s2k just fine. As far as practicality, the sti will easily win, but I find the s2000 much more fun to drive, and I love putting the top down on nice days. If this isn't your daily driver, I would go with the s2000. If you need a backseat, I would look at the RX8 also.

Honda has numbers 1,3, and 4 in your list while the STI has number 2. If you want a practical car buy the STI because its has torque and 4 seats, but if you want a very fun toy to play with at the track I suggest buying the S2000.

Since you have a daily driver, either cars will suite you just fine. Just buy the car you think will give you more driving pleasure. I'm not even sure what I would pick if I was in your situation. Good Luck!
BTW to try to answer which car handles better, I would have to give it to the s2000 because it is a bit more nimble, but then again the STI is awd. (Not much help huh? )

for a "weekend toy car" i would get a 2 seater. the wrx sti is a cool car but on a nice sat. u dont want to be driving around in a tricked out imprezza. if you want the "thrust" how about getting a used C5?

since you have an everyday car, go with the S2000. it handles like a go kart, has pretty decent acceleration, is rwd so its more fun IMO, convertible so the wife will like it (you as well of course, it brings a whole new perspective to "nice-weather days"), and also im 5'10" and i fit perfectly with plenty of headroom when the top is up. due to the low seat position in the s2000, people 6' and under have NO PROBLEM fitting in. the way to make this decision easier is to test drive them both. i test drove the sti about 4 months after buying my S and the STi was not as fun to drive. in the end its up to you though.

BTW - the only thing negative i can say about the s2000 is that its not turbo, which is the reason i might be selling my S for an older turbo MR2. (handles like an s2000 but has turbo)

I would say that the S offers more of the things on your priority list than the Sti. But then again I am thinking of trading in the S on an Evo 9 when they are released later this year. (I am not a Subaru fan, I think Mitsu has the better car).

i would also say s2k although i love the sti. i lean toward the s2k because of what everyone has already mentioned.

s2k - 2 seater, convertible, much more fun to drive (twisties)

sti - more room and fun on the straight aways.

Am over 6' and fit very comfortably, here. The S is eye-candy compared to the STi. The choice is therefore simple.

unbiased? I'll give it my best try... I was making the same decision last year and decided that practicality isn't my on top of my list =)
