04+ transmission
I am looking for a new 04+ transmission, since my 02 grinds 2nd gear and the two dealers I took it to won't fix it. I beleive that the gears are different, but I am not sure, so if anyone could shed some light on it for me that would be great. Also, approx price?

Gears 1 to 4 are the same. Syncros are different. Secondary reduction gear is different and gears 5 and 6 are different.

from what i understand. (had trans apart 3 times now) all the gears are different. all are wider, and redesigned. yes the secondary output (reduction) is different. go to the honda parts websites and take a look. exploded views, and part #'s all are different. lates

I have a 04 box in my 01.The first four gears are shorter and 5th is about the same with a taller 6th gear. The box does shift smoother in all gears including the dreaded 2nd gear.It should be noted that the newer box will still grind 2nd if you're shifting too fast.I've put 10k on the new box and I've had a couple of mild grinds into second due to shift error.Basically don't expect to be powershifting into 2nd without any grinds because it ain't happening with this car!!!

To find out this:

2ndary reduction gear .................. 1.16
1st ............................................. 3.133*
2nd ............................................ 2.045*
3rd ............................................ 1.481*
4th ............................................ 1.161*
5th ............................................ 0.971
6th ............................................ 0.811
AP2 ........................
2ndary reduction gear .................. 1.206
1st ............................................. 3.133*
2nd ............................................ 2.045*
3rd ............................................ 1.481*
4th ............................................ 1.161*
5th ............................................ 0.943

*note that these numbers are the SAME. They may be "different" (or not) and they may have different part numbers, BUT the ratios are the SAME.

The first four gears are shorter and 5th is about the same with a taller 6th gear.
It is for these reasons, that an AP2 car is "like" an AP1 car with 4.3 FD gears (in the first 4 gears). So, for those AP1 people who already have different final drive gears in their cars, putting in an AP2 tranny will give you even shorter gearing (in the first 4 gears) and more grunt down low WITHOUT sacrificing any more highway cruising comfort. You'll actually drop your highway cruising rpm by couple hundred rpm.
