04 Price Qoute
I was qouted $500 over invoice for a 04 S2000 from my local dealer. So much for gouging on the 04s. Just thought I'd let you know. Now I'm really tempted to trade in my BMW. Grrrrr

When they are announced, and if people start beating on the doors of the Honda dealer, they will say:
"$500 over invoice? We never said that!"
Or:
"Sure we'll honor that deal, come back on Oct 17th... 2004!"

Yeah, he may be lying to me (wouldn't surprise me). And if they try to gouge in Oct. I'll HAPPILY drive right off their lot. The market has changed a lot since 02 imo. Dealers can't afford to gouge due to more competition (350z, RX-8, Z4, G35 coupe etc..) and no bubble. I'm not even sure I'd trade my BMW for the S2k at MSRP. I really like my e46 330ci and it's paid for!!. The deal would have to be $500 over invoice or I wouldn't go for it. If somebody else is willing to get ripped off feel free. I've waited this long already to get a S2000 I can wait another year or go buy a e46 M3.

No one knows what the dealers will do, and I wouldn't put some of the crazy stories from MY2000 past some dealers, but I really think the situation is different. This isn't an entirely new model, but a change in the exisiting model.
No disparagement by comparison intended, but this situation is a lot different than the original S2000 introduction and the 2003 350Z -- and even with the Z the premiums only lasted a few months in the current market (granted, there was a significantly greater supply of Zs than MY2000 S2000's, but today there is a greater supply of sports cars with an MSRP under $30K than there was in 2000). With the changes we've heard to the MY2004, I'd be surprised if dealers could get away with a $10K premium or something crazy like that.
We're all just guessing right now but I suspect the dealers will be able to get MSRP, but no significant markup from MSRP. Again, they'll try, but I doubt it will work. Who here would pay $40K+ for the 2.2L and other subtle changes when a MY2003 or certified used 2002 could be had for 10-12K less? As someone in the market for an S2000, the car would have to include a heck of a lot more than what we've heard for me to pay such a premium.
