02 Grind, Speaker, Roof, Alignment warranty?
i have couple problems with my new 02 S2000. i bought the car just like 1 month only, i realized it has a lot of problems. i am wondering if i could take it back to dealer and fix those for me because i just walked out from dealership about 1 month only
1. 1st to 2nd grind - i dont have luck, i knew some 02 S2000 owners dont have this kinda problem at all
2. speaker damaged - i didnt listen any of rave or dance music etc.. usually i just listened some nice chinese songs and i didnt turn it loud either. currently i heard the f**king noises came out from the passenger side midrange speaker. i was like
3. top roof rattle - i always heard the "clicking" noise came out from the middle bar on the soft top roof. a while later, some more noises came from somewhere back corner from the passenger side.
4. steering wheel - the car will go straight if i hold the steering wheel little bit to the left, is that the alignment problem?
lol .. will those problems happen during the break in period? i cant believe i have that much problems with my new S2K.
thanks advice

1) 1-2 Grind - Make sure your pushing the clutch all the way to the floor. If you move your seat up one notch you may find that the problem goes away. If not then you'll have to have the Honda Service Tech drive/ride with you and reproduce the problem. The question you have to ask yourself is "do you really want to have them tear apart your transmission on a car that is 1 month old." You may want to wait on this, you've got 3 years/36,000 miles, the transmission may "loosen up" over time. If the problem is persistent, one thing you may try is changing the transmission fluid, some people have had some luck with Royal Purple, Redline, or even the Syncromesh fluids.
2) Have the dealer check the speaker, possibly it is a defective unit. This is not uncommon.
3) Rattles are tough to find but a good service tech may be able to help you. Have Honda look at it.
4) Getting a new car that is out of alignment is also not uncommon. Cars from all manufacturer's (not just Honda) can have this problem if the transport company did not tie the car down properly on the car carrier. It's easy enough for the dealer to put the car on the rack and check the numbers. You want to do this sooner rather than later, the soft S02 tires wear fast enough as it is.
All the above items are reasonable requests and should be covered under warranty by any local Honda dealer you go to. Make sure you ask around and find out which dealer in your area has a good service department.

The grinding is a common problem/complaint with '02s... Personally, the only time I've had a grind occur was my own fault. The tranny has a very short throw, and if you're not used to it you may be shifting much quicker than you realize. You may not have the clutch fully disengaged by the time you pass through neutral, and therefor grind. Also, the tranny needs to break in like every other part of the car so be gentle with it at first. It will get smoother over time. And the tranny needs to warm up too, just like the engine, so trying to shift quickly when the car is cold will sometime cause a grind or bind in the system.
As far as the roof goes, I have the same kind of clicking that you describe. It bother me a little bit, but it is a convertible. The roof is designed to move and flex. It's not going to be as quiet or solid as a coupe...that's just the nature of the beast. There may be something you can do about it, or maybe not... Either way, you'll get random squeeks and the occasional rattle with parts expanding and contracting, seals moving around, and the play that's inherent in all moving parts.
You definitely want to get the alignment fixed since the car will handle a whole lot better aligned correctly, and the aforementioned tire wear. When you do, get a printout of the settings so you have a reference the next time if you want to make canges.

My '02 is a little over two months old, and I don't have any of the problems you list, so I would say they're certainly not universal. If the steering wheel isn't centered, or the car pulls one way or the other, I'd sure take it in to be fixed.
Any tranny grind I've had has always gone away if I stop just an instant longer going through neutral -- especially when the car is cold.
I was amazed at the total absence of rattles -- even going over some railroad tracks near where I live -- when I first got the car. Now that the weather is getting colder, parts are contracting and I get a few rattles going over bumps. I suspect when the weather warms up and the parts expand again and fit tighter, they may go away.
Actually, I was going bonkers looking for a rattle a week or so after I got the car. I finally found it -- in the handle of a collapsable umbrella I'd stuck in the back pocket of the passenger's seat!
Also, make sure the metal tab on the passenger's seat belt is all the way up at the top of its travel. If you leave it hanging down next to the seat, it will rattle against the door.
I can't comment about the speaker -- I don't have the radio on often enough. The car itself makes sweeter music than I can get on the radio.
