0-60... what is realistic?

Well, I drove the S2000 today for the first time in years (boss's new car). Gotta say it doesn't seem as fast from a standstill as the Legacy GT (which is rated around 5.5 sec to 5.8 sec). Still, the acceleration is an entirely different baby. If I were to abuse the car, I'm sure the acceleration would feel more comparable. My test is bunk, as I didn't even rev into the vtec zone.
For a good "average" 0-60, a good number to look at is the 5-60 numbers. I bet realistically, the S2000 would pull mid to high 6's in that test. Once you get in VTEC though, the gearing helps keep you at that level with every shift, which keeps the acceleration numbers good.

With the all-season tires I had on, higher rpms just spun the wheels with no hook up. Actually decreased the 0-60 times.
When I get the S03s back on, I'll probably have to launch higher to prevent bogging.
But with a bunch of runs, 4k seemed pretty reproducible... and not too harsh.
And to qualify, it was 4k hold, then lots and lots of gas while dropping the clutch.

If it was me (and I've had this happen) and I was going 5mph and needed a burst of speed to get through an intersection, avoid a car, change lanes, etc.... I push in the clutch.... rev... and drop. Otherwise you're dead in the water while you wait for the torque to build.
So if you told me "start driving at 5mph and then get to 60 mph as fast as you can..." I'd cruise, clutch, rev, and drop.... It should take me less time than a regular dig.
But that's my real-world method of choice to scoot out of danger at low speeds in a stock AP1.

I have NEVER launched over 6000rpm. And in fact, last year I was banging out 14.0 times doing 4500rpm drops, and I was getting TOO MUCH wheelspin.

Actually it's a good thing to bring up. Each magazine uses a different devise calibrated in a different way. This produces different results. Each car has a driver that weighs a different amount. This produces different results. Each run is done in different weather conditions. This produces different results. Each car is tested at a different altitude. This produces different results. Not every car has been broken in. This produces different results. Each car may have different tire wear. Each car may have different tire temps. Each car may have different tire pressure. Each car may be at a different operating temperature. Each car may have a different amount of gas in it. This....
Get the picture? The car goes between 5-6 seconds 0-60, which is a poor measure of performence in the first place.
