I have an FX2 (BelTronics). It is pretty accurate. I've tested all my cars and compared them to mag times to see how my driving "style" compares to different magazines.

I've found that Edmunds numbers are somewhat conservative.
All my best times in all my cars were a consistent 0.1-0.2 sec off published best times.

When the S2k was stock:
Off the top of my head....

Best run that I cared to make: 5.55, 4k drop, wheel spin, all season tires.
Average with same conditions: ~5.7-5.8
I don't consider that super aggressive, and is close to how I normally drive.

I also did no spin starts, no VTEC runs, and other varieties. I can try and pull them up if people care.

(And for the peanut gallery, unless you have timeslips or something more concrete than your butt dyno, refrain from the judgements.... this is just a FX2 reading... not an absolute reflection on YOUR possible speeds. Take it for what it's worth, just a little more info) Truce, Yellow?
Yeah truce I have no problem with you. But there is a chance that you think I'm someone else because you called me Jay once. That is not my name. And no I never had another username on here before.

But of course, a 4k drop won't give you near the potential 0-60 that the car has

Didn't a commercial suggest once to drop at 9k?

I wonder what times a 9k drop would give you

I never had to replace my clutch even after 3 years and 60,000 very hard miles.

Average 0-60 would probably be in the realm of 6 flat.
IMO, 6 second 0-60 is worse than average. I can practically get that WITHOUT launching.

And yeah, as long as you're launching right, dumping the clutch and NOT riding it at all, the clutch and car can handle the beating. More often than not, it's driver error when parts get damaged when launching a stock S2000.

I beat the SNOT out of my first S2k (sold cuz the ex-fiance whore made me sell it). I ran that thing probably over 100 runs at the drag strip, as well as countless street light races and stop ilght races. I drove that thing HARD for 35k miles and never had a single problem.

I beg to differ. launch rpm depends completely on your conditions and weather.

I have NEVER launched over 6000rpm. And in fact, last year I was banging out 14.0 times doing 4500rpm drops, and I was getting TOO MUCH wheelspin.

For the record, I launch between 4000-6000rpm. I got a 13.9 once on a 4000rpm dump during the month of may on a roughly 60's degree day.

hey thanks guys... Ckcrigger and Saab9-3 tons of helpful info. good to hear the s2k is quick.

so, are the Sport Compact Car drivers that bad? it always seemed that they knew what they we're talking about... perhaps they don't do clutch dumps???

All I can say is I test drove an S2K when I had my WRX (non-sti), and the speedo didn't climb as fast as the WRX on a heavy clutch slip/dump. Gotta admit, the S2K was more exhilarating (sp?) though. Kinda reminded me of my 97 Prelude. That car wasn't very fast, but it sure felt like it, and to me that was all that mattered.

Today I drive a Subaru Legacy GT turbo. I might get to drive the S2000 that my coworker bought yesterday. I'll review the speed differences if that occurs

If they say the clutch went out after 10 runs, then they were probably trying to slip or "ride" the clutch. The clutch in the S2000 is relatively weak, and will not stand up to that. It will glaze or overheat quickly with that technique.

I did over 15 runs on a 95+ degree day in my S and never had any clutch slippage (of course, my fastest run was a 14.3... but what can I say? I suck at drag racing). I was dumping the clutch between 4 & 5K RPMs. I don't know what the SCC guys are talking about, though.
