Default $9800 Damage?!?!

I just spoke with the autobody shop, they said the damage done is about $9800. It pretty much blew me away. Geesh, I didn't think there was that much damage, but perhaps the impact was deeper inside than what it looked like from the outside. The insurance company does not like this estimate ... this sucks, I just want my stook back.

This pretty much follows the pattern of my experience with my accident in my first S2k. $14k initially, then 16k, then 20k, then finally, "We can't fix it here--it will have to go to a Honda dealer with a body shop." At which point it became clear to the claims adjuster that the car was totalled, so that was what he recommended.

Then, of course, the higher the estimate the longer the estimated time to complete. My adjuster said figure one week for each $1k of damage. Not what you'd like to hear, I'm sure.

You're quite a bit under what my initial estimate was, so maybe it is reparable and will work out all right. But you can tell your insurance company that S2000s are EXPENSIVE to repair--just ask anyone on this site who's had a similar experience.

Good luck with this. Hope you get your car back quickly and in excellent working order.

if it's that high already, i'd just hope there's even more damage so the ins. company would just total the car, then you can get a new one.

tough luck man. sorry.

My last car was stolen and totalled. I can't deal with another totalled vehicle, I just want them to fix it soon. My insurance is already skyrocketing

Cars suck, when you get into wrecks.

I slid in a snowstorm last winter in my Impreza (yes I KNOW it's AWD... it was an icepatch!!). Front end went into a ditch at probably no more than 20mph. Even that'd be pushing it.
Over $9,000.

Front bumper...headlights...foglights...right front fender...dashboard...both airbags...airbag computer.... an I-beam... All had to be replaced.

Sucks.

How much damage before the adjuster can classify the car as totalled?

On the other note, wouldn't it be nice if your car was leased?

I would think it would be HORRIBLE if it was leased... they would hammer you for major $$$ devaluation when you returned it...
