Default $500 to renew registration!

On my "2000 Hond S20." For that much dough you would think they could afford to get the name correct!

I moved here from Wisconsin, where I could have paid for 12 YEARS worth of registration for less ($40/yr.) Which states have the higest / lowest registration fees?

I guess that includes personal property taxes? Whatever it includes, that's a lot! I think it was $85/car here to register a new car, and maybe $25 a year to renew?

Guntersmurf,
I see you live in Reno.
My wife and I have lived in mpls, MN for all our lives.
I would love to live in the Reno area cause of the weather - dry and more like California, but much cheaper.
Also, it's close to SanFrancisco (my favorite place to live, but way to expensive$$$$$) and also to Lake Tahoe.
Would you be willing to send me a PM (so as not to ruin this thread) about what life in Reno is like?
We were thinking about Reno, Carson City, etc.
Don't want any snow, unless I want to drive to lake Tahoe for a little "Holiday time" snow.
I hate the Humidity. Mpls is like humid Florida in summer and frozen tundra in winter.
I looked at the weather for Reno, and it sounds perfect.
Much dryer, about as hot in summer (90s) but not as cold as mpls in winter.
Did you move from Wisconsin? You might have a lot of interesting input for us on the differences, etc.
My wife and I are going to S.F. in October for our 5th Anniversary. we are probably going to make the 3ish hour drive to Reno/Carson City are for a couple days to investigate and see what it is really like.
I would love to live there, and be able to drive to San Francisco or Wine country and the coast once ina while in a new 2002 blue s2000.
I currently have a 2000 MR2 Spyder, but it's impossible to drive in winter, I suspect the same of the s2000, so if we don't move, I will probably have to end up trading the MR2 for a Audi tt quattro instead of a s2000. I like the s2000 100x better than the other 2 cars.
Thanks,
Koz

I think CA is worse...its usually around 1 1/2% of retail value of the car I think...

That sounds about right. It's also $90 for customized license plates

Nevada has no state income tax. In AZ we have state tax and outrageous registration. For the S the plates stare at $688 and depreciate each year for about 30 years. By the time you are done you could have bought another car.

My registration expired while I was in the UK. With my luck, I managed to get a citation the first day back. I payed for the registration in Irving for $87 (one year + late charge). The real kicker is when I went in to take care of my ticket, they did not dismiss it as I'm accustomed. All they did was give me a $15 discount. The ticket was $85.

About $145 for personalized plates here in Michigan. I guess we're less because for 3-4 months out of the year, the "S" is going to remain parked in the garage

But until then, it's all
