I just dropped my baby off at Santa Monica Honda for a clutch replacement. They quoted me a whopping $1700 for parts & labor. This includes the entire clutch assembly and a brand new flywheel. Any input would be great.

How many miles do you have on your car? Just trying to gauge clutch replacement timeline.

Is it common to have to replace it so soon? Do you drive like a madman?

The clutch isn't gone yet, I'm getting it replaced to fix the deceleration grind.

I do drive a bit like an escaped mental patient

Why isn't under warranty?

Is your car out of the warranty period? Deceleration buzzing should be covered.

The clutch doesn't have much surface left - I talked to another board member after he had his clutch replaced and they wouldn't do it under warranty because it was almost gone.

Why are they replacing the flywheel? Usually all you need is a clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. I'd bet the TSB won't pay for the throw out bearing and the pressure plate, but the labor should be free since they've got to remove all three pieces to replace the clutch.

I just had my transmission rebuilt on my truck at a Toyota dealer last week. I paid around $1750 for the tranny rebuild, and a clutch replacement - this is on a 4 wheel drive.

$1700 seems kind of high...
