Default Yellow Eclipse vs Yellow S

I've enjoyed reading these threads, so I'll share an experience I had.

A few weeks ago my friend came to visit my new apartment just outside of Baltimore. He hadn't seen my "S Wing" yet so we took it to bowl a couple games. On the way back, I hear the distinctive fart cannon drone of a rice poser. Sure enough, as I'm mildly accelerating away from a light, a bright yellow Eclipse with a black stripe along the side skirt zooms up next to us and revs a couple times as he freewheels to a stop at the next red light. My friend says, "All right man, put this guy in his place."

Even though it was cold out (30-ish degrees F), the roads were clear and dry and I had my trusty all-seasons, so I decided I'll just race through the first 2 gears. Light turned green and I let go with just a mild clutch dump, around 3K RPM. Either the Eclipse was an automatic or this guy has no idea how to aggressively start, because I heard the noisy thing go RRWAARrrrrrrrraaaaAAAHHHHH as I pulled a good car length away before I even make it to VTEC, where I put on another car length. I took my time shifting to 2nd after hearing that so he gained about half a car length, but then I sail a little further ahead until I shift around 9K.

I had proved my point, so I braked until I was at a normal speed and (of course) he continues to zoom past. the road changed from 2 lanes each way to 1 each way, so I didn't get a chance to look at him as he was ahead of me then. I turned off to go home and my friend and I laughing the whole way.

Cheers, and stay safe everyone!

Yikes! I'll make sure not to do that again.
I do remember reading that the diff is the weakest part of the car.

Probably was a GS. I used to own a GST Spyder w/full bolt ons including a Precision T4 Turbo. Turdo DSMs do not sound like raspy NA I4s. I really wanted a RWD Vert & so I deemed the S2 the best bang for my buck. Only sad part is the S2 gives me way more problems than my GST. I figure its worth the headache. hahaha...

Damn I miss her, but its always great when a fellow S2er races one. Although my Spyder would have done circles around my S2 I'd still rather have the S2. =D

So I'm assuming it was one of the 97-99 eclipses? I used to have one. I have to admit I do miss that Greddy BOV.

^ those newer ones are weaksauce. You raced a 4 banger then. The v6 sounds more like a deep rumble, kind of like the Supras but the car just isn't going anywhere. hahahaha Plus the V6 would have given you a better run BUT he still would have lost.

I had a 99 gst eclipse w/upgraded turbo and some bolt-ons. Never ran right but the few nights it did it beat my buddies s2k. Don't really miss it except for the feel of a turbo spooling.

Good race,
