I love my S2k! That said a WRX will beat an S from a dig every time. I have owned 2 WRX. The first was an 03 and the second an 06. I could do 0 - 60 in my O6 in like 4.8 sec (down pipe and cat back exhaust). I raced an SRT8 wagon in my O6 Wrx wagon and I killed him till I hit 3rd gear. An S does not have the pulling power of an SRT8 so I doubt that the S would really make up the difference in a 1/4 mile race. Let face it, if we wanted a 1/4 mile car most of us would not have bought an S. That said on a road course or auto cross our cars rock out of the box. It takes a crap ton of money to get a WRX to perform like our cars!

I've raced wrx's from a dig and s2k will always come out on top now lol. (if you know how to launch a rwd car)

The s2k makes more hp than the wrx and weighs a lot less. The only thing that the wrx has a advantage on is a bit more tq. But because of the 5 speed and weight and lower hp it will surely lose.

Like you said if you launch your car right. If you beat a wrx out of a dig it is because they did not launch their car right. Like stated above a wrx does not pull on the top. These cars only have the 1/4 mile and 0 to 60 times they do because of the killer launch. Proof look at the low trap speeds of the STI which has more hp and torque than an S.

once the wrx hits 4th gear it hits a wall and barely accelerates. even when it accelerates wrx pulls 1,2,3 the s will still pull on it. and the s pulls all gears.

Just coming from an STi, when you said your buddy was making power even to 8k is very interesting, find out what hes tuned on, also tell your buddy to be careful with his transmission. WRX transmissions are known as "glass" transmissions. If you can post a pic up of his intake also.

Ill try and get a picture of his intake! And stupid question but how would we go about finding what he is tuned on?

The gear ratio for 02-07 WRX's are the same, however from 04+ the gear thickness changed (RA width). Supposedly this would allow for greater durability, however the 06-07 models suffered from longer overall gearing (3.7 FD vs 3.9). The 2.5L engine with the additional torque made up for the longer gearing however this also added more stress to the transmission. Even worse, Subaru installed 17" 21lb wheels on the 06-07 models compared to the 16" 15lb wheels.

Regardless, even if the 06 driver has the right mods (intake/TMIC/turboback + dyno tuning) that would still not allow him to readily beat an S2000 from a roll. The stock TD04 turbo is just too small for the displacement and is very peaky. By the time he's switching gears at 6K RPM the power has already dropped significantly while the S2000 is just starting the fun and making more power until redline.

Finally, the S2000's weight, gearing and power curve will still beat a properly modded and tuned stock turbo 06 WRX. Now, if he's tuned on E85 then he might stand a chance. The only way for an 06 WRX to be competent in racing would be at least to upgrade to a STI turbo (VF39, VF43, etc) with a different FD (i.e.; 4.444) and to dump those heavy wheels- which is what I did.

Yes please get a pic, the best way to find out what hes tuned on, even if he doesn't know, is to get in contact with the last owner and ask him.

04-05 WRX gearing differs greatly from 06-07 (with 06-07 being considerably longer....)
No, the 5 speed (all wrx's) is all the same. 04-06 STI Gearing is shorter than 07+ STI's.

No, the 06-07 cars have a longer FD. Not "considerably" longer, but longer.
