Default VW R32 vs. GTI 1.8t

Hmmm, first the turbo Integra, now this.. I'm beginning to think my car might actually be quick..

On my way to PA with the fiance this weekend, I drove past a brand spankin new VW R32 (seat plastic still on).. I decided to see if he was up for a friendly run with a sibling car by pacing him, then taking off.. Sure enough, he took the bait and followed suit.. Up ahead a tractor-trailer moved to pass, so I slowed to about 60mph in 3rd to wait for the truck to get back over.. There was no traffic ahead whatsoever, and the R32 was right on my tail so I knew he was ready..

Truck moved over.. I hit it.. 18psi in 3rd.. I'm looking back, he's still there.. both lanes are open, but he stays behind me.. 4th gear, 18psi.. I'm pulling away... He's lost about 2 cars on me.. I look down. 120mph. Oh crap! I get on the breaks and pull to the side.. He pulls along side and is shaking his head.. Thumbs up all around.. The guy was nodding and smiling as if to say I beat him fair and square.. His car probably wasn't completely broken in yet, but it was cool to say the least..

r32's are supposed to be some evil cars. Maybe he was short shifting due to break in (makes sence seeing how you said it still had plastic on the seats)

Yeah, I think that if he was actually trying to beat me, he'd at least have pulled into the other lane.. Either he was just following me or trying to draft me, in which case I am faster than I think.. I prefer the latter

I used to have a 1.8t beetle with chip/intake/turbo back exhaust and when I test drove the R32 I was very dissapointed. The R32 is not that quick.

doenst the HPA R32 have 500HP and all wheel drive? That would be a fun car. And a real sleeper.

From everything I've seen/heard they're supposed to be mid 14's cars.. Not fast, but not too slow either.. Certainly I'd think my mostly stock 1.8 wouldn't put that much distance on one, but it could have just been driver error..

whats up?

how much work do u have done to your 1.8t? the key factor here is the weight of the r32. while not HEAVY cars, they're much heavier than a 1.8t. a chipped 1.8t with mild bolt ons would have NO problems beating an r32.
