Underdog Mentality
Seems like everywhere I go late at night some Civic or RSX wants to race me. Sometimes the driver revs his engine and other times they let off their blow off valve. Most of the time I try to ignore them since the S2K was not designed to be drag raced and dumping the clutch is kind of destructive on the tranny (so I've been told). Anyways, I also own a Civic with a B16A turbo that weighs about 1900 lbs. It does the 1/4 mile a respectable low 13s. A couple nights ago I took my rarely driven Civic out just for old times sake. About 15 minutes into the drive I line up at a set of light just as I see a Boxster pulling up beside me. Well I look over and qualify the guy to be old enough to own the Boxster and young enough to race. So I reved my engine let my BOV go.
Needless to say, he didn't race me. Talk about instant role reversal. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, I had an inner urge to win the respect of a greater car.

i remember the days in my crx and everytime i saw an s2000 i would follow it and rev at it just so i would be noticed by the s2000 owner. now i own an S2000 and every car that revs at me i just remember when i was driving my crx and rev back at them. they know they cant beat us they just want to be noticed atleast that is what i think.

of course...if we're in a ferrari we're never going to rev an S2000, because we'd be utterly humiliated if we DID lose. It's about the sleeper mentality, we want to show up the guy that supposedly has a more expensive/better looking car, and prove that our rust bucket family sedan or whatever can hang with them.
