Took a Z06 by suprise
I don't typically do the street racing thing, but the other day my wife and I ended up next to a C5 Z06 with some old dude driving it. I am a general auto enthusiast, so I knew that being stock we would deffinately get the short end of the stick, but I really wanted to hear the wail of an LS6 with the top down .
I kind of got the feeling that he was going to go for it when the light turned, the only problem is that there were some rough tracks about 1/8 mile or so past the light. Well the light turned and we both kind of rolled out slow in 1st, we both sort of slowly ran into higher rpms in 1st, and then pulled the trigger at about the same time. I nail 2nd and he has not started to pull, but I can feel it comming. Then he completely kills his 1st to 2nd shift, and I hear nothing but LS6 rev limiter. What is worse is that his bad shift killed him so much that by the time he hit the top of 2nd and was shifting into 3rd (I had already nailed my 2nd to 3rd shift) we were even, with me maybe even a bit ahead, and then he missed third . By this time I had to let off because of the tracks, but not enjoying his defeat/tie (either way a moral defeat), he kept right on trucking, likely bottoming out on the other side of the tracks.
It was deffinately a sound that I have NEVER heard from an LS6, ever. Kind of like a "roooaaaaaaaah, bangpu, bangpu, crunch, bababab, rooooaaaaaaaah, bangpu, bangpu, crunch, bababab, roooooooaaaaaaah, roooooaaaaaa.......scrape aaah, "

Hhahahah.....Good story!
It sucks for him missing 2 gears.
And to think he was still right next to you missing both 2nd and 3rd.
Oh well...a kills a kill.
I feel bad for his corvette.....he probably made sparks.

hahah that must be awesome to miss all your gears and still be even or slightly behind the car you're racing.
that kinda happened to me a few weeks back while playing with a new 370Z, but i only missed one shift (3rd to 4th), not two shifts. on the one hand, it was pretty funny that in no time i was right with him and passing him hard just after botching a shift. on the other hand, it was pretty embarrassing missing a gear and not pulling like i should have...it was a bitter-sweet experience to say the least!
