Well, maybe not spanked, but did beat him. Was stopped at a red light behind an early 90's Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. As we're waiting for the light to turn green, a Chevy Trailblazer just goes and runs the red light. As soon as the light turns green, the 3000 GT slams it, and takes off. Not being one too be left out, I slam the gas, change lanes to the right, and start catching up to the 3000GT. Ran through first gear, I had caught up to the back of his door, shift to second, ran through second gear was at up to his windshield, shifted to third, and started passing him, shifted to fourth, and had about half a car lead at about 6000 RPM. Fun ended there since we were coming up to an intersection we're we could only go left or right. I went right, he went left. waved goodbye, and went on my merry way.

The S2000 really runs on Vr-4's especially once you are moving. I smoked one on the highway multiple times. No chance for it once you hit 4th, 5th, and 6th.

A stock 1st gen VR4 91-93 would have a problem on the highway against a stock S2K, but I don't think a 97+ model would have much of a problem vs a stock S2K being that they are lighter and have a 20hp increase from the 1st gen. Never had a chance to run with an S2k yet, the car is put away for winter now, maybe next year.....

A 94+ Vr-4 would definately beat the S2000 if the driver know how to drive AWD. Launching AWD is very tricky. Too little gas resulted in a BOG and very slow spooling turbos.

I love you import guys. The Corvette is "overweight" and "bloated"
at < 3200lbs, but the 3000gt VR4 is just fine at nearly 4000lbs.

The 3000GT was not a great car, forgetting the fact that was a
FWD platform. It was WAY too heavy, WAY to complicated and
WAY too expensive. C&D did a 40k mile test on one and it went
through THREE (3!) transaxles during its stay with C&D.

I agree with you ElTianti, the 3000GT is overweight.

Which 3000GT are you talking about ? The SL and Base models came with FWD, weighed around 3200-3400lbs and really had no problems with their trannies.

The VR4 on the other hand, in the early years did tip the scales close to 4000lbs but in the later years where down to 3700lbs or so. They have AWD and yes have had problems with the trannies. I am on my 2nd one with 46k miles on my car. It all depends on how you drive the car. I have been to the track numerous times and gone thru 3 clutches. I would assume the everyday driver probably has little or no issues with their tranny.

As for the car not being great, that is a matter of opinion. In my opinion, the Vette isn't a great car, has nothing to do with it being a domestic car or not.

Just my .02.....

An S2000 would not beat a VR4. Gimme a break. Sounds like you raced an SL.
