Several street races with a fellow S2000
I had several stoplight races with a friend of mine who has a black S2000. (MY 2002) We went about 3 times and all 3 times either I bogged, or he grinded 2nd gear. We headed down to the street races, er.... "legally sanctioned event" after that and ran another 3 times. The 1st time I bogged, and he mis-shifted 3rd, so he won, but then didn't.... The 2nd race I bogged... grinded 2nd, and ended up about a length behind him. Worst race I've ever had. 3rd race, I got a great launch, though he got the jump on me a bit and was ahead. When I shifted 2nd I jumped past him and got about 1/2 length on him. by the end he was in my blind spot, so I couldn't tell when he let off. All in all, pretty equal races, though his reaction is a bit better than mine.
I do have a question for other S2000 owners. I have found it better to speed shift at 8500rpm for 1st gear, as not to risk grinding and it seems to really work. (as noted by the way I jumped past him in the last race). What do you all do for shifting 1-2???

Maybe you guys could get new synchros under warranty? I have a blk MY2000, and I always shift at 9k or 9.1k in first to second without any grinds...I think that before I got my car from the dealership (certified pre-owned), they replaced the synchros. Might want to check it out, but I don't know what your warranty situations are.

Yes it was Leo that I raced.
And I have not had the synchros for 2nd gear looked at, as I have had several people say that it doesn't always fix it. (such as wesmaster) I also fear the dealership trying to reproduce the problem by redlining and driving my car.

Ya good point... I think you already have your mind made up on this one, but two things:
1) You could always reproduce it yourself. My girlfriend did this for the Honda dealership in San Diego to demonstrate her tranny problem, since she didn't want them beating on her car.
2) If it is covered under warranty, what do you have to loose? You are right, it might not fix it, but it very well might. And if its free, then you win!
