Approaching the onramp to the 13 North in the Oakland Hills I came up on a convertible E36 Dinan M3. We were both entering the on-ramp at the same time and when he saw me and in his rear view he immediately hit it. I was a two car lengths behind him, I was in 2nd and I hit it as well. I ever so slowly crept to the nose being 1 1/2 car lengths back at the end of second...hit third, moved one lane to the right and by the end of third my nose was at his door (one of the cool things was when he shifted from third to fourth I was only at about 7200 rpm and began pulling really strong on him. It is a cool feeling to see the other guy shift and know you still got 1800 more to go). By half way through 4th I was 3/4 ahead and he started to back off.

I was once again pleasantly surprised at the stook. Despite the fact that he had his top up and mine was down, I was pulling harder the deeper I got into 4th. Might have been a bit different around 1/2 way through 5th.

The only bad part about this was the fact that the guy wouldn't acknowledge me and pulled a "sore-loser" move by buzzing me at a high rate of speed about 2 minutes later. Oh well...at-least I had fun.

wow, anything dinan is pretty quick.

You should try to race the dinan M coupes, now those are REAL quick, supercharged

This same one I saw in my magazine came into my work, I was stoked.

I took a Dinan 8 one day. It was on a deserted twisty little stretch of road and he was basically hitting it hard, drifting corners and everything. Even so, every time there was a straight, I would move over to the left to try and get around. I never got enough straight to actually make it around, but I was pulling on him on every straight and I had to reign it in on the turns so as not to crawl up his tail-pipe.

If I ever get a chance, I will definately run. I doubt I could come close on the straights, but I would love to run with one on the turns...

Umm, no.

To be a Dinan, you have to add enough Dinan parts. A supercharger is not needed, nor is any motor related part.

On E36 M3's 96-99 the best you can get is about 15 hp with stuff Dinan sells, w/o resorting to a blower, despite anything printed to the contrary on their website.

Maybe they didn't have E36 Convertible M3's in Canada, but here is the US they definitely have them. I see them all of the time.

First, yeah we had the convertible E36 M3. Second, no way in the world a re-badged 328 pulls that hard. Not unless it DID have a blower, in which case, I still won!

The Bimmer driver is a Stooker-hater.

If Humana was at 7200rpm in 3rd in the story when the Bimmer guy shifted to 4th, he's probably going ~85mph? So the M car was somewhere close to that, but far from your being able to hit 100mph "easy" in 3rd gear.

What are the top speeds for each gear on your BMW? Which BMW?

WELL I AM NOT SURE, BUT THE LAST TIME I RACED A MUSTANG GT I WAS GOING 100MPH BEFORE I SHIFTED TO 4TH. I USUALLY REDLINE ON EVERY GEAR. THE ONLY MODS I GOT IN IT WAS A CAI,MOD CHIP AND EXHAUST FROM ACTIVE AUTOWERKE. HOW FAST CAN A S2K GO B4 REDLINE ON 3RD???
