Very interesting.....thanks all for chiming in, especially the STI/Evo guys.

How much does a reflash cost normally? Will you need to tune the car afterwards or do this (reflash) again after adding mods?

sorry to go off-topic but subaru really needs to equip the sti with wider wheels, stickier tires and better suspension. i drove a sti through the mountain twisties and it understeered like a damn pig. but in a straight line, it's a different story.
yes STis are known to understeer, i believe it's the only flaw it really has....but i'm no complaining, it still handles like it's on rails.

The understeer issue can be easily fixed with new bushings ($30 fix). This is a common mod by the STI fanatics. Subaru should take note.

Even without the easy fix, if ones knows it understeers a bit, you can compensate for it. As such, the STI can be an amazing handler. AWD all the way!

Of course, the S2000 is a hell of a lot of fun in the twisties of Montgomery TX!

I guess the engineers at Subaru heard you, cause the 05 STi has wider tires(17X8 like the EVO), updated suspension, and updated diff. As far as the tires go, I think it's as sticky as it can be without being hazardous.

i think that the '05 stis' are still wearing the same tires, 225/45 R17 90W.

If they are, then it's pretty stupid to change it to a 8" rim with different bolt pattern. I thought they changed it to 235....not sure though.

^^ Got the following info off from subaru.com:

'05 Subaru Sti Spec:

Wheels 17x8.0-inch 10-spoke BBS lightweight aluminum-alloy. Silver or Gold finish.
Tires 225/45 R17 90W ultra high-performance.

overstock tires? contract with bridgestone? or just plain stupid? who knows?

Same boost tapering issue up top on the STi as well. My only guess is that they did it from a reliability stand point?

With the mods you have, shouldn't you be putting down more power? One of my friends with an EVO has the similar mods has around 320-330, but I think he's running 22psi.

A lot of people make this top end thing alot worse than it actually is, it's not like the STi/EVO falls on it's face after 6K rpms. Let's say the S can start to pull even with a STi by 100mph, but it's hard to make up for the ground that it already lost from whatever speed to 100mph since it's only barely pulling.
Depends on the dyno...
On a Dynojet I make a lot more power. I don't worry about dynos too much for that very reason, the variability. Unless it's a load replicating dyno like a dyno dynamics or mustang dyno it's pretty much wothless except for making baseline comparisons. My car is a 12.8 car though.

I've driven an STI. It was pretty nice and fast, but I still pretty much prefer the much more nimble and precise handling of an S2000, though I wouldn't mind having an STI for those raining days. For those sunny days, it's all about the sun beating down your face in a convertible.
