Well, a stock WRX isn't fast by any means. A lot of stock grocery getters will beat a WRX on a roll. My auto IS300 stock whooped on stock WRX's no problem.

one of my friends has a wrx with sti parts an upgraded turbo and stage 5 tuning its at 415 horse on pump and almost 500 on race gas and he pulled me by 3 cars on the highway from 70-100 in my ss camaro then i caught him by 130 and wound up passing him by 140 so from 70-100 they are mean and from 100 up they dont have too much more top end

poor ap1 owners. JK. well as of yet, i have film, and will have more. my buddies stock sti, with catback. we roll on from 45mph. dead even all the way out, 155 mph. when he runs 18 psi, (controller) he walks away, pretty good, has me about 5-6 cars by 140. i have to do more runs to prove it 100 %. here in vegas we do it over and over till we have the truth. ive rolled with him stock and him catback, about 4 times. cant pull me, now i have intake, and we havent rolled with him on 14 psi. but when we rolled with him on 18, pulled me less than before. and i pull a stock evo every time, about 1-2 cars. but thats a guy i know, like youll ever see a stock evo. after this weekend, ill have stage 2 clutch, and S tech springs. so we shall see if lowering, and actually having a clutch that holds, helps me beat any of these fools better than before. yes im still workin on getting my cam mount, so i can film me playing with LS1s. laters homies. dave

The Evo has a weak top end. I've heard this talking in person to an Evo owner. He said he was pulled on by a slightly modifed GTI 1.8T (chip, intake, exhaust only) at high freeway speeds, whatever that meant. I'm guessing 110 and above. I'd expect the STI to have the same problems but not as bad due to the larger engine, higher power rating, and 6-speed manual. Most turbos don't pull very hard at the high end. They have tons of low and mid-range torque but lose it later. This was also true for my chipped S4. It almost seemed like it was better to shift into 6th than to stay in 5th at high RPMs on the freeway. I think the S2000 might have a chance keeping up (at best) with an STI only after well above 100mph.
By the way, not to flame on S2000's, I absolutely love them ,and it's my next purchase. Best convertible sports car in the world for the $$, great on the highway and killer on the track. So, peace. Just giving some info.

I am the owner of a modded evo...Works P2 reflash, Throttle body, full exhaust, and 269 cams. Even after just the reflash the Evo was a beast at the top end. The drive-line loss is not the big deal with the evos. It is the factory set boost taper above 5000 RPMS. The Evo runs out of steam after 5000 from the factory due to boost dropping to 16PSI. Kind of a head scratcher as to why mits engineers did this. With just a reflash, the car holds 19PSI to redline. I've run with a few S2000's at higher speeds, 80-120, and it's been absolute anihilation, and my car is only putting down about 290 WHP. Even with just the flash, I had a few encounters and easily pulled. The Evo is "constipated" as it were, from the factory, so a re-flash, in my opinion, is necessary.

With the mods you have, shouldn't you be putting down more power? One of my friends with an EVO has the similar mods has around 320-330, but I think he's running 22psi.
A lot of people make this top end thing alot worse than it actually is, it's not like the STi/EVO falls on it's face after 6K rpms. Let's say the S can start to pull even with a STi by 100mph, but it's hard to make up for the ground that it already lost from whatever speed to 100mph since it's only barely pulling.

sorry to go off-topic but subaru really needs to equip the sti with wider wheels, stickier tires and better suspension. i drove a sti through the mountain twisties and it understeered like a damn pig. but in a straight line, it's a different story.
