S2k vs BMW 318
The title is a bit misleading, cause the guy just dropped an M3 engine/tranny/exhaust into his '95 318i. It was an engine from the 240 hp M3, the older one (not a 300+ M3). He said the curb weight of the 318 (with the old 4 cyl engine) was 2800 something, and I looked it up and it was so we matched up number-wise, except for Torque- doh! and looks - mine looked so much sweeter...I'm not sure what a late 90s M3 weight is, but I've read that the S vs late 90s M is pretty close, with the edge going to the S.
I had my girlfriend in the car and the top down for the first run.
Started out around 6k in first and I botched the shift (maybe due to 1-2 grind), and he was edging me out a little. But we were basically neck and neck, with whoever was shifting dropping back a bit. We only ran to something like 85, cause the road wasn't one we could get up too fast safely. He was going to push it faster than I wanted to, so I kinda pussed out.
For the second run, I had quickly put my top up at a light and we ran to about 85 (I think, I wasn't watching) again, this one being even closer. I think I shifted a little early from 3rd, which was dumb. We might run again on a road where we can go a little faster, and without my gf dragging me down (as usual). You guys think as we get above 85 that I'll start to walk a little? I ask, because I hear that's where the S is best, but with our stats matching up so well, maybe it will continue to be neck and neck.
But he was chirping pretty good shifting into 2nd and 3rd. I never hear the S chrip em, do you guys?
