I seriously think that NJ is the S2000 capital of the world, I see you guys EVERYWHERE! I haven't pulled up next to one yet (except for Erik's) but none-the-less I see S2Ks all the time. Anyway, speaking of Erik, I think you are up in his neck of the woods. He works right around the corner from the GWB in Englewood Cliffs. Ever see a white/red S2K around? He only drives it on the nicer days so if you see it he most likely has the top down.

If you ever get the itch to find out what the back of a '97 Z28 (LT1) looks like, lemme know. Nice kill, but if he's making 310 at the wheels he either has no idea where the gas pedal is or you've got some wicked freaky car.

You guys have to remember that power curves affect roll races. The LS1's have loads of low end which matters in the 1/4. The S2K once past first gear is in its peak power band the whole time. From a roll you may not notice much of a difference between the cars. I've noticed this in my Prelude as well. S2K's walk me faster than LT1's. Ls1's bout the same as a S2K from a roll.

Perhaps some LS1 guys can post a dyno sheet and we can look at it. Possibly there are some weak points between shifts?

Can anyone disect the different Z28 models and how to tell the difference (if you can - other than the ones with "SS" badges). I don't really know what different models they have, would like to know; see them a lot.

Thanks Sev. No wonder I was able to keep up with a few LT1s.

Sev, you'd better sit down for this one... excellent info and I agree with just about everything you've posted. By the way, the two examples of Z28s that you posted are both John Moss (GM) project cars and while I can't remember specifics, I'm pretty sure both are above 550 rwhp. Not at all relative to this thread but info I thought you guys might find interesting. The black ZL1 car is actually a 94-ish Z28 with an LS1 front end, under the hood is a big block motor you'll never find in any GM vehicle. Two f-bodies I never want to tangle with! I'll look around for pics of LT1 Firebird/Formula/Trans Ams but the idea is the same as the Camaros. The front end is alot more abrupt and the body has a few less curves.

Chris

P.S. The LT1s that produce less hp are "affectionately" referred to as "Friday cars" meaning they were built in a hurry. Also, there were a number of cars that underproduced hp and/or had serious electrical problems in 1997. It appears that most of those cars rolled off the line in the months leading up to a strike, kinda scary knowing the guys building your car might just want to get to the bar a little quicker and screw up your car before you ever see it.
