OK, as for GTP's, I raced one in my S on the Beltway. It wasn't so much a hardcore race as it was a spirited run (from I-45 to HWY-249), but it was a race, nonetheless. I noticed I would pull on him when given the opportunity, but the braking/accelerating was definitely working in his favor.

From a car enthusiast's point of view, the car was never intended to be, well, a driver's car. They started with a FWD chassis. It can be done, but not by GM.
Also, as Shawn mentioned, a true driver's car does not come with an autobox!
But yes, they're rather nice cars, with decent looks, and they obviously sell extremely well (in Texas, at least).

Perhaps, this is my fault. I just assume any FI car from the factory is SUPPOSED to be a driver's car or somewhat of a sports car. Sports cars, IMHO, shouldn't be auto I dunno, other people have that opinion. Even when I see auto MKIVs, I am like... ew.. an auto.. other people have their own opinion.

Sorry to the rest of you guys for the rant, but I hate seeing a good thread go bad.
on topic....I have seen some amazing things done a Grand Prix still running the stock turbo. I don't know the extent of the aftermarket for this particular car, but I have seen a lot of custom jobs done to later models with great results...I try not to be too assuming when I see one next to a light....you never know..

alex....I agree with you that the GTP was never designed to be a full-blown sports sedan, the exclusive use of a slush box automatically (no pun intended) takes it out of contention as a true driver's car. They are still nice rides though......still glad Pontiac is losing all that cladding though
