Roush 'Stang vs. da S
I was on my way to a BBQ in Pleasanton when I see a "riced" up new model convertible Stang. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the emblem on the rear end says "Roush." For a pony car, I really liked it. It had a full kit and it matched the lines of the Stang well. I knew it was easy smoking Pony cars (done it plenty of times ), but I always wanted to see how da S can hang with tuned V8's.
Coming up right beside him I downshift into 3rd at about 70mph. He has a passenger and his top is down (my top is up and I have my beautiful girlfriend with me ). Since our speeds were matched and I was in the ideal gear, I wondered if he would bite the bait. So I floor it for a little to see if there is any reaction. There was none. So I thought forget about this guy, I threw it into 6th, and continued on my way.
A few miles later, I noticed that the Roush was gaining speed in my rear-view. I quickly dowshifted back to 3rd (about 80mph now), but I was too late; he passed by going over a hundred. I slow down, thinking that he doesn't want to play, but to much my delight he slows down and matches my speed. Him and his passenger are waving their hands in a gesture saying that they want to run again. I look at them, smile, and double-clutch right back to 3rd and floor it. A millisecond later the V8 opens up as well. 90mph . . . we are neck and neck . . . 110mph, still no change and I'm getting really pissed now . . . 120mph, girlfriend is screaming for me to stop f**king around and I notice that I am now pulling away from the Roush . . . 130mph, two car lenghts and my hazards are blinking. They fly by and give me a thumbs up and I return the gesture with my own peace sign.
This sure made my day, I didn't think that I would have a chance against a Roush. I think I'll keep my eyes peeled out for the new Cobras, now they are gonna be fun .
P.S. I am NA.

Good kill, the reason you walked him so bad is that he had to shift into his overdrive 5th gear at about 120mph... A run at anything under 120mph would be very close as you mention... Either way, I wouldn't try running a new cobra if I were you unless you just want to see him go. They have a 6 speed with the overdrive 6th not necessary until about 170mph (of course they're limited to 155), oh and about 360 to the wheels on top of that...
anyway, nice kill, and great avatar!! "you'll never see the P..."

hey Sav onE, is your S modified at all, coz i thought a real Roush stang would haul ass all over a stock S.
u mention that u are NA but are there any mods, i know bolt-ons don't do much but it seems as if u discarded him fairly easily.
what's the power outputs on a roush stang vs an S. i remember reading in R&T about the Roush and i thought they had a lot of go power.

I believe that Roush with a Stage III upgrade can go up to a 13.1 / 108 mph in the quarter (as per Motor Trend). I have know idea which Roush I smoked, but it had the full body kit and was loud as f*ck! I agree that having the top down going over a hundred will create a lot of drag; hence, giving me a slight advantage. I don't think I smoked him that "easily." We were even until 120+ mph until I started to walk him. For my mods, all I can say is that I am NA w/ a VAFC . The VAFC really cleaned up my power curve. My VTEC transition is smooth and I have tremendous gains from 8K to 9K (all under the graph, of course). Latez!

Roush stage I, and II are mostly body kits. They look fast, but not that fast. They are very nice looking RICED OUT stangs.
Hey bayarea408, you sold your S2000 for a 99NSX?
How much did you pay for the NSX? You like it? any regrets?

Yeah... there are alot of stangers that people just beat to hell.. if you own a new saleen, or a new roush, or a new 03 cobra you probably are a good fan of them and respect the car.... saleen looks really nice ... white ones are awesome.. i saw a 03 cobra the movies,... all i could say was i really like that car. and its the first mustang i would consider.. come on.. its a blown 395 hp beast... enough said.. ford is doing something good with this snake of theirs.
