Is this possible?
I was driving home tonight and a red mitsubishi 3000gt pulled up right next to me at the light. He started to revved but I didn't want to race. As soon as the light turned green I decided to punch it (last minute decision). My car was at least 1 and a half car in front before I hit redline and I'm still in first gear. I decided to slow down after shifted to 2nd, and at this time his car just blew by me like I was standing still. In my mind I knew I'd won the race. I didn't want to risk getting a ticket over a race with some stupid ass driver who doesn't know what he's up against. So, does it seem right that I beat this guy in 1st gear by 1 and a half car length?

it all depends, there are some quick 3000gt's out there, specially the vr4. who knows what the guy had done to it, did u hear the turbo spool or wastegate as he went by u?

If it wasn't a VR4 (which i'm sure it wasn't) then yeah, that probably sounds about right for 1st gear. lol. The Base and SL versions of the 3000gt's are, well... turds.

1) If it was a SL or BASE, absolutely
2) If it was a VR-4, it was of poor health, bad driver, didn't launch hard or bogged, got him out of boost.
Assuming your stock, 1st gen vs. s2000 is a driver's race and 2nd gen is pretty much faster all around especially on the street. From a roll, the s2000 has a much better shot.
On the street, who knows tho.

I have played with one VR4. I sat at a light on an overpass, he came FLYING off the ramp, bassically ran the red light and slowed down after a 1/8 mile or so. Next light we ended up next to each other.
He reved a few times (heard the turbo), the car sounded like schit, bad ping at idle and generally unhealthy sounding. I did nothing back, but when the light went green we both rolled out at WOT. His TC spooled when I was at ~4kish RPM and started to pull past my front bumper, however by the end of 1st I started to gain, end of 2nd had pulled to his door, 3rd started to roll on him......oh wait, what, is this upcoming traffic......the idiot/asshole decides to come into my lane forcing me to just short of lock up my brakes. I turned at next intersection, cause if we ended up at a stoplight again I was hot enough to get out and have a few words with him.
He was also a crap driver (asside from the bad lane changes almost hitting me) as in his shifts where slow, I know my 1-2 shift was 10x faster then his. He should IMO have eat'n me alive, however the bad driver coupled with a poorly maintained car kepted it even. I would have easily passed if he had forced me to the side.
