Witnessed a modded EVO MR run a modded 337. EVO has some sort of a Vishnu(SP?) computer, aftermarket tubular header, 3" exhaust no cat. Maybe some other things that I don't know of. 337 has exhaust, APR chip and I think a larger side mount intercooler. From a 30 roll to about 100 the EVO put a whole car and a half on the Golf. Ummm, not exactly what I was expecting. So what is the verdict from you EVO owners. What is wrong with Jeff's car?

 

bad driver? im a veedub tech and that evo should have waxed him.

 

He forgot to do the driver mod! j/k Maybe his car wasn't tuned right? Could be alot of factors.

 

Yeah that EVO should've had him on a leash the whole race.

 

Probably a Vishnu stage 1 kit right? Don't they make somewhere near 300whp with that kit? Maybe he couldn't drive it right, or that golf had some good power on him.

 

Did they race pass 100? Cause the stock turbo on a gti runs out of steam pass 100 but from a lower speed roll up to 100 the turbo spools pretty fast. And since the evo mr has a turbo back exhaust and ecu tuning. it should of walked the 337 easily.

 

Well imo Vishnu is overrated. I honestly doubt the Evo is close to 300 whp with a TBE and flash. I'll be around 290 whp in a couple weeks with cams, tbe, flash etc..But that also depends on the gas, if hes around 300 whp he should have pulled easily. I agree with everyone could be driver or ??

 

vishnu is great if you get tuned. but if you jsut get a mail in flash it's as mediocre as any other mail in flash and you are never getting your full power.

you never know though, ive seen evo's that had tons of mods make totally pathetic power because something was wrong and they didn't know it.

for example one guy had his cam gears set wrong and only made 220 whp with a signifigant amount of mods. They fixed the cam gears and immediately he made 250 whp and then tuned made 275.

i saw another guy make 200 whp with a lot of mods also and he was making a crapload of torque, but his boost was falling off so fast that his peak power was at something like 5200 rpm.

later on he found out that when he installed his MBC he didnt take out the restrictor pill and that was causing his boost to taper off horribly.

so the reason for this guy's poor performance could be any number of things.

 

Evos can be fickle....could be a boost leak, bad gas, and or bad tune.

 

Sure hope it is something for his sake. I don't know how much he has thrown at the thing but I would not be happy. Altitude here is about 5800. Maybe his ECU flash is not taking that into account.

Maybe now is the time for me to run him. I have held off because at 5800ft my 2005 GTO might be making 325 at the crank. Get him while he is down
