MY01 vs My03
Okay so last night I was cruisin around when i saw a black S. I got really excited because I don't see them too often around my town, and I liek to spread the word of S2KI and whatnot.
anyway, we both are getting on the highway, and he mashes it. Well I'm not paying too much attention and Im already in Third (way outta Vtec) and I mash it and try to keep up. He basically walks me all the way to around 140. Thats a problem, which I will get too shortly
so we both pull over and talk, the guys name is aaron, and he hangs out here on s2ki as well, really nice guy. Well we agree to go from a dig.
He honks off, gets the jump, and I have a crappy launch that puts me below Vtec. Anyway we go, and I am ahead all the way...but I'm not pulling the insane distance that I should be. In fact as soon as I dick up the 4-5 shift, he's right beside me and passes.
I have a few ideas as to why I didnt do so good (crappy driving is one of them) but I was wondering if yall had any other ideas.
His 03 is bone stock.
My 01 has Invidia Exhaust, AEM V1 intake, voodoo shift knob (hey its a mod) 4.77 gears, and the 04 17's w/ RE 050's
The reason I was upset about the run from a dig is, I thought 4.77 were supposed to be netting somewhere around mid-low thriteens, where as a stock S hits high 13's-14's, and here I am barely taking a stock S. Not only this, but I have ran my buddy's 03 GTO from a 20mph roll, and have hung with me pulling slightly ahead.
Now for the reasons I think I didnt do too good.
1. crappy shifting/launch/driver error
2. AC was on
3. Had a passenger, plus I think I have about 100lbs on the other driver
4. too much damn stereo equipment, gotta be at least another 100lbs
so i guess here's a word of advice: just because your car should be capable of doing something, doesnt mean it will.

Well it sounds like with the passenger +200 lbs, you +100 lbs, and the stereo equipment +100 lbs you've added about 400 lbs to a 2800 lb car with little torque. So, now you've got a 350Z with an s2000 motor. The intake and exhaust may give you 5 hp or so, not very meaningfull. The 4.77 should shave about .5 seconds off 1/4 and 0-60 times if driven properly, which it doesn't sound like you did a real slick job of.
I would say the gear advantage is basically entirely offset by the added weight.
Lose the stereo, lose the friend, and lose some weight and try again.
I've got 4.44 gears, intake, and and tuned vafc and easily pull on stock s2000s from a roll. I would think the 4.77 would be even better, but the gears are a lot shorter, so shifting is key.

yeah i easily pull on stock S2000's at any speed. (even gone beyond 125mph)
methinks there was a lot of weight and some lackluster driving going on. have you ever run at the 1/4 mile track?
