I'm at a stop light on Sepulveda with the top down and this guy in his new SL500 with his top down pulls up next to me. I didn't care much for him, I know how those cars "perform." The light turns green and him having an automatic, of course, takes off faster...but I had no intention of racing.

Once he got passed me, he waved his little finger at me like "don't even try." So I had to down shift to 2nd and catch up. I'll tell you guys, we were both even up to 110 on the side streets...

Then he was laughing as if he had won... on the next light, he rolls his window down and says to me: "0-60 in less than 5 seconds bro!" (which is obviously not the case, SL500s run mid 5's. they're so heavy at 4,200 lbs, even though they have a 300hp V8.)

So I yelled back: "then you should have pulled away, howcome you didn't pull away from me?"

His smile got smaller but he was still smiling at me. I again said "I thought you'd have pulled away from me!" (I should have also added to him "Wait 'till you have to make a turn!")

He just shrugged and made a right turn at the light...funny how you could give a guy alot of money and he doesn't even know what he's driving...esp. on West LA.

This was my first amd probably my last race with the S2k. I just like to enjoy my cars.

2004 Mercedes-Benz SL-500

Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 5 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 302 hp
Max Horsepower: 5600 rpm Torque: 339 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 2700 rpm Drive Type: RWD

AA, nice duel. Wow, 110 down side streets? Be careful man.
I saw a mag review of the SL500 with 0-60 in 6.1 sec. I think you could take him.

The thing that amazes me is that the guy claims (or thinks) that it does 60 below 5 secs... my E55 did 0-60 below 5 secs, not an SL500...

...and the fact that he wagged his finger at some punk in a little honda...that's the funny part.

Well the SL500 does beat the S in one category, luggage capacity. Ha. It's a cargo mobile! Seriously, the SL500 isn't a bad looking car at all, but to me the S seems to be a much better bang for the buck. I guess it depends on what you want in a car.

I have done the same thing. Got caught up in the moment and ended up at speeds in areas that I shouldn't have. I still enjoy letting the S stretch it's legs in safe situations, but not like that anymore.

A tricked out SL500 can look sick as HE$$. I wish I had photos of the one down at Alki.

Will you shut up, moron? You say that in every thread, in a sarcastic way. Yes, the S can't lose, so stick a finger up your ass to ease your constipation.
