The only way to kill an M3 is on twisty stuff, straight roads there is no way that a stock S can even compete. Come braking and taking a tight bend and it is all over for the M3 driver IMO.

LOL...who told you that, the tooth fairy. The M3 will eat an S2000 alive stock for stock at any speed. The S might keep it close in first gear but given equal drivers the S2000 doesn't stand a chance. The M3 has power everywhere compared to the S2000 thanks to a much torquier motor and a substantial hp advantage despite the weight difference. Do you understand that the S2000 traps around 100mph in the quarter mile at about 13.7-13.9 with a very good driver where the M3 is hitting closer to 108 mph in almost a full second less...that's a BIG difference. I suppose it is possible he had the girly transmission and was in auto mode or something but short of that....
My 2004 M3 has SMG, no way is it a pussy transmission. It takes skill to get SMG down the way I rally my car.

I don't think you've frequented the members rides and vids on M3forum lately, b/c there are more than a few members that have hit 13.0 flat stock with SMG cars. Handful of 13.3's bone stock. Of course you have to be in S6 / DSC off / sport on though.

First run is a 13.2 at 107 / he did run 13.0 that day. Bone stock (SMG)

Second vid is Mathew's 12.2 at 113 N/A. (6MT)

Third run is Scott's AA Supercharged (SMG) M3. 12.1 at 117.

Maybe the M3 was just playing with you. I did the same thing to the e46 M3 I ran at the road course.

Don't take offense Bill, to each his own. My first M3 was loaded with SMG, Nav, etc. and the SMG annoyed the crap out of me. It was great when hauling ass in S6 but almost everything else sucked. I know I didn't take much time to get use to it but I really don't believe it would have mattered. I love my manual with the clutch...it just enhances the driving experience as far as I'm concerned. F1 drivers do need SMG style tranny's to go faster but they're not for me. If the rumored E90 does not have a manual option then my current M3 will be the last BMW that I buy. If you are truly arguing that it takes MORE skill to drive an SMG than a manual then don't get upset when you get laughed at.

He was trying, I've been told that the M3 will eat the S over 100mph but up to then you stay pretty even. My S is stock but I have the JDM with a higher engine pressure and I run on high octaine fuel (97RON) I'm sure if the Dual carrige way was empty when we pulled on to it he would of started gaining over 100mph.

Chris
With higher compression and 97-octane, it's very believable that you hung with him in a short burst of run, not very long.

I'm skilled with both.

Honestly if I traded in my 04 M3 for an 05. I'd have a hard time choosing again.

I only hope that BMW abandon's this idea of an SMG only E90 M3 otherwise they will lose a customer.

They will offer a six speed, you can count on it. They are making a six speed M5 exclusively for the North American market after just about every M5 owner in the US threw a major hissy fit........if THAT car can get a six speed, rest assured that the smaller, cheaper M3 will be similarly equipped.
