Default My 04 S2k vs 04 S4

Let me set this up.
Driving to work this morning at about 6:30am, I just got off of 287N in Piscataway. I come to a light and a black S4 pulls up next to me. The driver looked like some corporate executive type with his pinky-ring, suit jacket hanging in the rear and his striped shirt on. I say, eh, I just want to listen to Stern and get to work. Light changes. I start off slow and look over at the S4. He looks back then guns it. I said oh $hit, so I hit it. We went for about 5 seconds and as I approached, he shut it down. I see another light just ahead turn red with no other cars in front of us. So I get beside him and get to the light. He rolls down his window and says, "Do you want to run?" I told him, "It would be my pleasure!" I stage the car at around 6500 rpms. The light dropped and so did my clutch. I took off like a bat out of hell and pulled on him by about 1-1.5 cars. I mean, $hit, I even shocked myself that I out launched him. (Providing he was launching). I shut it down at about 65-70 with him about 1 car behind. We get to the next light, which is only now a one lane road, and the guy pulls up next to me. Rolls down his window and says, "You'll never beat me from 0-60!" I said, "That didn't seem apparent to me judging by our last encounter!" Basically, we were both talking $hit on one another's car until he took off while we were talking. I said the hell with chasing this cornball.

Anyone else out there ran into any of these S4's? Results?

I think those cars are sweet. I also own an A4 3.0.

Hmm.... You beat one of the newer S4's from a stop? Not to doubt or anything, since anyhting can happen on the street, but i think the story would have been the other way around if the person could drive..

Nice kill though... I am surprised though that the S4 did not reel you in quickly with all of that torque..

Was it the S4 or S4 Cabriolet? The Cabriolet is just about as fast as the S2000 in the 1/4 mile (14.0 @ 99mph), so if it was a Cabriolet, its easy to believe. Otherwise it was probably an automatic S4, which the S2000 should be even with as well (runs about a ~13.9 in the 1/4 mile).

I'm kind of surprised the S4 didn't take you off the line though with the AWD advantage but I'm guessing he didn't launch at all, probably just mashed the gas at the green, giving you the advantage of the 1-1.5 car lengths and then keeping you in front the rest of the way.

Nice kill though, way to show those V8's what a good NA 4 cyl can do

jigga009 you're right! I thought the same would happen, but here's what I found out just w little while ago:

S4
0-60 mph in seconds:
manual: 5.3
Tiptronic: 5.6
Top track speed: 155 mph

LiQiCE,
It wasn't a cabrio. It was the 4dr sedan model. It might have been an auto. But some of the numbers I found on the web about the S2000 vary so much. I've seen 1/4 mile time from 13.70 to 14.4 and 0-60 from 6.4 to 5.3. So I posted the worst case. Anyway, I think two things happened. One, I'm a decent driver which he probably wasn't expecting and two, he didn't know how to launch.

The only mods I have are a AEM Intake v2.

Yeah, if he wasn't launching and it was an auto, you probably should have no problems taking him. The reason for the huge variances with numbers on the S2000 is because of people launching versus not launching and of course driver error. A "perfectly" launched S2000 should be able to get from 0-60 in about 5.5seconds. The Audi numbers of 5.3/5.6seconds 0-60 for a manual/auto is most likely from a launch too, so I'd imagine that would help to explain your win. In any case, it doesn't sound so unbelievable when you look at the times.

Good run. The S4's would be BEAST if they didn't weigh so much. There was this one guy with a modded S4 at our local AutoX destroying the course. He let me ride in a run with him... it was crazy. Gotta love that AWD.

lol. i work for this company, this is funny.
they have identical 0-60 times. 5.3, and if you have ever driven a broken in ap2. you will know this is true. the 2 b6 s4,s i have raced, were comparable with the lightnings i have raced. its no contest. the S bounds out like a deer, and the s4 kinda couch hops out of the hole. they run hard, but they cant make up for what they lost on the laws of kinetics. as i add more parts to my S, my bud keeps houndin me to race before i get too much faster. he has a full bolt on and chipped b6 s4..... im not worried.
