Everything is faster now than back in 1987. I think a good running stock GNX would run 13.5 or so @ 105mph... which is pretty fast.... the Grand Nationals would run about 14.0-14.3ish at @ 100mph....

grand national / gnx's all had 3.8L turbo's...but... like stated above, most have a few modifications.. just a downpipe, high flow cat and cat back would be 40hp or so.. (just like on the current Evo's and Cobra's)

I really like the look of a stock GNX, but they only made a few hundred and now low mileage cars are for sale in the mid 30's..... that is just too much $.

Similar but different.....A red 1993 Typhoon w/ 15k miles is for sale for $23k (should be negotiable) right now..... they were awd so they could get off the line much better than the GNX or Grand nationals.

I saw a Typhoon rape a Talon with like 19psi... The guy in the Talon was dumbfounded, as he got smoked by a 4x4.

I need to buy another typhoon.... I had a 1993 that ran 13.95 or so in the qtr mile @ 97mph... all stock except cat back exhaust.... but with a chip, turbo back exhaust and intake they would be very low 13's or high 12's... (assuming you didn't break the halfshalves...).......which for 10 years ago was pretty quick... now it just keeps up with STI's and Evo's... but they can haul stuff and look kind of cool.....

I used to love the syclone/typhoon trucks. Still do in fact. I bet they will hold their value better than a s2k.

Both versions of the Grand National (GN and GNX) had their pony #'s underrated from the
factory due to the Corvette. GM wanted to avoid the embarassment of their
Regals being the fastest cars in the lineup so they rated them at the flywheel
with a horsepower # most were pulling on the dyno. In fact, one of the fastest
street cars ever made by GM was the 20th anniversary Trans Am which utilized
the GNX motor but in a more aerodynamic platform. I believe Car and Driver
nailed the 0-60 test in 4.7 seconds. Mind you, this was back in 1989!
My brother owned an '87 and sold it two years ago for $14K. It only had 27K
miles on the odo, ran strong but like most GM products of the day, rattled
horribly.
