I was coming back from Charlotte on I-40. A guy in a recent model (late 90s maybe) Z28 came up beside me. He pulled in front of me and got in the lane in front of me. I then passed him and the car in fron in the left lane. He came up beside me when the highway was clear in front and was reving his engine up. I looked and nodded and he slammed it and got a little bit of lead. I was going about
70 at the time. I then threw it down into third and then switched to fourth right around 90 and passed him fairly quickly. I threw it into 5th around 110 and quickly got about 4 - 6 car lengths ahead and slowed down once I realized the speedometer was showing 130. He put on his breaks and got over in the right lane and never came up beside me. I have no idea what engine the Z28 has but I was surpised how easily I beat him. He could have chickened out by it looked as if he was giving it his all.

I probably would had a lot more trouble from a dead start but am really not sure the hp and weight of a Z28.

BTW, I had my wife in the car with me at the time. She is still mad at me

Hey dean - how are you doing. How many miles does the baby have by now. I think we both got our cars around the same time (04/19 for me) and I just hit 3k yesterday. Time for the first oil change is coming up!

Regarding your duo - I doubt that it was a fair fight. If it was a recent Z28 with the LS1 motor - I don't think our cars have much of a chance against those at high speed as they are known to put down in excess of 300hp at the wheels. They are heavier but not by THAT much. The older LT1 motors would be closer although I still dont think you would have beaten him that badly.

Take care and careful with the speeds - 130 mph = VERY VERY bad ticket.

a LT-1 can be beaten that badly.. depending on the car.. especially if its a friday car as mystic put it.

I have 3200 miles on my car now.

I can't tell you what he had but I know it was a easy race for me. Don't some of them come with only a V6? Not sure but he didn't have a lot of torque.

I don't keep up with Camaros very much. The reason I say it is new is that the paint looked new, he had a bra on the car and it had the more modern design.

I do think that he could have backed off once I got ahead of him as I was paying attention to the road and not the drive. I just see no way that car has 300 + hp because it wasn't even close.

And yes I know about the speeding ticket at that speed! My wife is still pised at me

Nah he pulled back over in the right lane and didn't get up fastest enough to go buy me. Not a very good sport.

Yeah, definitely not an LS1. Z28s don't come with anything but V8s, so if it said Z28, no V6 (unless it was domestic rice :-). An LT1, as others pointed out, could have resulted in a strong win for you, especially an automatic.
