First off it should be noted I have a newer clutch. It is still a factory replacement and the normal stock clutch for an S2000. (honda replaced it after my first one was found to be defective after 3000 miles) I currently have 7000 miles on the car. I have found dropping at 5500rpm is best. I know most people drop at 7k, but for me I spin the tires too much. so I drop at 5500 rpm, and feather the clutch for the first 10-15 feet or so. After that, the Potenza S03's catch hard and pull hard since I'm already well into vtec and the rest is history. the hardest part is NOT grinding 2nd gear. I usually chirp 2nd gear slightly also. That's when i know i've got a good run going. My average 1/4 mile is about 13.9 or 14.0, but every so often I'll dip to that 13.8 and even that 13.795.

This is the kind of drop I do against LS1 camaro's and usually I will get a good length on them by the time 1st gear is done. then the camaro's start to pull slightly, but never enough to beat me by 1/4 mile. Usually by 1/4 mile their front bumper is at my door or back wheels.

So you drop at 5,500 RPM, the wheels spin, get you moving, and before they really hook up your above 6,000 RPM? I hate to contiue to doubt, but a 5,500 launch with the stock HP will not get the tires spinning enough to keep from bogging, and immediately going down to 3,500 RPM. I guess my real point is, you're the only stock S2000 on this board that can do that. I guess that's what you have to realize before getting upset that no one wants to believe you. If it's true, then I'm sure we'd all like to learn how...but it's going to continue to seem fishy to anyone who's launched at 6K-7K and still bogged because the tires gripped suddenly.

Probably the cold air in Wisconsin helped.

I know it seems doubtful that I'm dropping that at 5500rpm. Thats simply my initial launch. I feather the clutch and floor it keeping it above Vtec until it "feels" like the right time to stop feather. It only takes a second or two. If I am initially above 6000rpm when I drop, I spin the tires too much. It's probably my technique. but If I hold that 5500rpm and then feather and floor it, and keep it about 6500rpm, it just all flows. I guess I'm not sure how else to describe it. I can't go above 5500rpm or I spin too much. Again that's just my technique. And again once I start to go, I do keep the rpms ABOVE the VTEC point. If I dont then yes, I know I have let the clutch out too early and it bogs below the vtec point. does this make sense? I'm trying to explain best I can... I guess it's just hard cuz I just do it without really thinking about it.

I used to pull in the low 13's with my '97 SS camaro.. It was the 30th Anniversary one though.. A little more hp than the Z28.. I will say though, that was definitely a faster car than my S2k.. Not by much but it was.. I eventually sold the SS for a '93 viper.. Man, that was a car.. Handles good and was fast as hell since it had the last of the Gen 1 engines ('96.) Unfortunately, I had to sell it as I moved to Oregon.. Ended up with an Audi and just got rid of that for my S2k.. Nothing like V-tech in the snow.. hehe.. Anyway, the result of the cars (Stock LT1 vs Stock S2k) is the driver of the LT1.. If he sucks, you can take him.. If he is on point, you will lose.. 75% of the time at least.. I am not saying that the S2k is slow.. Just the engine of the LT1 is pretty good.. Especially modded... The LS1 or LS6 is light years ahead though.. Just my .02

Hmm, it's been a while since I have been on the track. (winter) Other than some street racing which I didn't do any SERIOUS ALL OUT drops. I will run again in an upcoming sanctioned amateur event. I will let you know how it goes. And I'll see if I am dropping at 5500 rpm. I might be revving at 5500 rpm and when I go I drop at 6500rpm. Oh hell, i dont know. I'm just confusing myself. Like I said, I just do it. either way i'll let you know how it goes when i race again. (i tried doing a 5500rpm drop last night and I bogged a little. but i also know i didn't feather long enough) hmm.
