Hmm, now I may not be a math whiz, but the difference of 1 second in quarter mile does not exactly equal 15 car lengths. And I also understand that the C5 in that video DID have different gearing. Does the newer Camaros have the LS-1 engine? If so, then those are even slower than the vette engine. Because I have raced several and beaten all but one. So 15 car lengths where???

guys, as a NON ls1 owner, and someone who was involved with the race....
the silver c5 is an automatic. Stock, comes with a 2.73 rear gear.
He replaced it with the "stock" gear from a six speed. i THINK its a 3.15... but it might be different from that. It is a different gear, but it is a GM part. The torque converter helped him a little too, but basically he makes "stock" horsepower.
Hope that clears it up.

As Foo said the rear end is a stock GM part. It does come stock off the factory line in the Vettes. He bought the car used and did not like the gear set that the original buyer had chosen so he elected to replace it with a part he bought directly from the dealership. It's not an aftermarket part. He would easily put 15 lengths on a stock Stook from a stop. We can get video of that fact if you guys would like. You'd agree that Wes could put 6 or 7 car lengths on a stock Stook right?? And this stock C5 easily put 7 or 8 on Wes.
If video of the Vette beating a stock S2K would help you guys understand then I think it can be arranged. This C5 runs about 12.85 at the track and I believe a stock S2K goes in the 14.2 - 14.4 range, for those of you who don't street race that's about 15 lengths. I'm pretty sure none of the folks in the Video (ZerinS4, Wesmaster, Foo or myself) have any difficulty with this fact, so I'm not sure why you guys do. I mean you see him walk off from a SC'd S2K and a K04'd S4 so I'm not sure what more you'd like to see.
Keep in mind all of the guys in that video know each other and are friends.

Oh man, I love it when it comes down to this hp/L thing. ROFL
Just for clarification....
A4 (Auto 4 speed)
2.73's are stock
3.15's are the factory option (which I have)
M6
3.42's only option
The M6 gears are a direct bolt in/swap for A4's and a popular upgrade (fairly cheap compared to most vette mods).
Also, if you don't understand why GM uses pushrod motors, just ask, don't slam. It's pretty easy to understand.

I understand that a Z06 will beat an S2000 pretty darn good. (1 second roughly in 1/4 mile??) But the best times I have seen for a Camaro with the LS1 engine is 13.5 seconds. And the best for an S2000 at 13.45 seconds. Now arguing with paper is not the way to do things. but from personal experience of racing a couple LS1 camaro's (we have a lot of them around here) that it's close enough to come down to driver. could win some, could lose some. However, I do believe your trans am is somewhat faster than the camaro with the same engine. So that might account for what you feel, seeing as you own an S and a Trans Am.
