Sorry, magazine races don't mean anything when racing from highway speeds. A stock S2000 is slightly faster than an E46 330Ci. My wife (who is not the best driver) reguarly tore my friend's 330ci a new one on the highways. Even if the M3 driver didn't know how to drive, it's as simple as putting your foot to the floor and shifting. There's no way, if the M3 driver was actually racing, that a normally aspirated S2000 would touch it.

I'm speaking from actual experience here - my last car (sold in October 2002 to make room for the S2000 project) was a 2002 M3 cabrio:

Anyways I ended up gettin to where the freeway splits and I see in my side mirror the M3 coming pretty fast and passed me up so I sped up a bit and caught up to him. We were going about 65 when i saw him start to floor it so at this point he was maybe 1/2 car infront of me when i dropped it into 3rd gear and was head to head all of 3rd gear. When i shifted to 4th I actually pulled on him maybe like 1 foot. Our windows were down and I swear we were looking at each other the full time I was in 3rd then 4th I saw him slip back but we hit traffic at around 100mph and I had to slow down. I was pretty amazed with the performance of my s2k.

I've raced one with a Spoon intake and exhaust, and the damn thing just pulls at low speeds. I think it's the large torque number. However, I think with the Mugen goodies, it might have made it a bit better, but overall, it would still have been a loss.

It's funny how some say "rape" or "kill," cuz it wouldn't have been that bad. Seriously, I got "raped" by a modded Supra, not that's a "kill." An E46 M3 pulling doesn't really equate such extreme use of lexicon. Just IMO, that is, since it's not even a whole second faster in the quarter.

I say if it ain't more than a second faster in the quarter, it'll be fun! That's why I love to race 996, and even the turbos, even though I get "killed" by the turbos.

Dude, these 996's that you're racing. Are they towing trailers when you race them? Any time you'd like to line up, please, give me a call.
