I know the feeling
I have an Audo Saab 9-3.
Just cuz it's an Auto, torque is 10lbs less than Manual, pretty wack. Takes off so slow.

Driving home the other night, I turned onto a big 2 lane road leading to my house and decided to have some fun As I flew past a couple cars I could see a black car with HID's up in the distance weaving like I was. I threw it down a gear and caught up to him just long enough to see CLS 550 and a custom license plate saying "453HP" followed by a roar of a v8 and his tail lights disappearing in front of me...

Car and Driver did that article to show what the S2000 would perform like in "real world" conditions, as 90 percent of it's original owners who paid 30K+ for it were more than likely never going to be doing 7K launches. Which is true. Only hardcore enthusiasts who don't worry about breaking shit are willing to make a car "show its numbers" on a regular basis. I drive the hell out of mine, but I've only launched it one time from a dead stop. As others have stated, this isn't a drag car. To each their own

This thread has shown who knows how drive there cars, and also who haven't got a clue smh for starters your "launch" rpm will very pending the driver and car set-up. You'll know your launch range if you hit the dragstrip. For me, 7k is alittle high, 5.5-6k is fine with slipping, don't dump it. A lot of people lose in the S because they don't know its powerband, know your powerband.
