Maybe, but then it would be his word against mine. I have a witness to the fact that I didn't pass in a no-passing zone, which is what my ticket is for basically. But if I did go to court, my understanding is that I might be charged with something else instead (related to passing the multiple vehicles at excessive speed), and I would not ask my daughter to lie for me. I'm just going to consider it a wake up call and pay my fine, insurance be damned. Thanks though.

Simply get a good lawyer who knows the DA. You can easily have most cases settled out of court. Usually the attorney and a DA have a agreement. The going rate is generally between 250 - 400 dollars. In most states, the lawyer plea bargins with the DA to get your infraction reduced to a "non-moving violation." The town still gets the money for non-moving violation, the lawyer gets his cut, and your insurance doesn't go up. It is the best deal for everyone involved.

Also since you have no tickets in the past, you can look into a PJC if your state offers it.

Before I drop this tired topic, there's one more thing I've been wondering about.

Suppose I was a motorist who had a complaint about another driver, which is the role that the X police chief played in this episode. I imagine that when I reported the incident to the police officer in the next town, I would have had to at least fill out a complaint or the case wouldn't go anywhere. But, as far as I know, the X police chief never filled out a complaint against me. All I have is the ticket issued by the police officer from the next town, who didn't see anything. Does this make sense?

Yah its BS, he probably just called him up and said something about it, if the cop doesnt see it , it didnt happen i dont think... this police chief is ovbiously a jerk and a half.
