Never, EVER admit to an officer that you were speeding. The instant you do, even if you claim to have been going just a few miles an hour over the speed limit, you have just confessed to speeding.

Maybe in a few rare instances you will get the officer that will respect your admission and let you off with a warning, but the majority of the time you will get a ticket.

That being said, if you show up to person in court and speak with a DA or a DA's rep, it it usually quite easy to bargain a bit with them and get charges reduced. I'm not sure how it works in other states, but I know in NY that any non-moving violation results in 100% of the fine money from the ticket going to the township the violation occurred in. A moving violation (i.e. speeding, reckless driving) splits that fine 50/50 between the township and the state. Obviously, unless you are a repeat offender, they are going to want more money for the township and are likely to reduce the charge to something non-moving.

Now, after all that, back to the original poster's question...a reckless driving charge is going to be difficult to explain away. I would check and see in your area how many points a reckless driving charge would levy against your license and what the fine range is. You may want to look into the cost of a lawyer for this one.

EDIT: spelling...

I can't believe you posted this in 4 different forums. Get the lawyer like everyone in the local forum is telling you.

Come on guys why not help the dude instead of adding insult to injury. I mean yeah he broke the law by speeding (we all have) all the poster wants, is the same thing everyone else wants, which is not have to pay all the $$$ for insurance or stand a chance of loosing his license. I mean damn talking about manning up, WTF is this? I mean if there is a way to get out of a ticket, using legal methods, then by all means do it. If you want to be am idiot and "Man up" then go to court without a lawyer and plead guilty (which by the way is really stupid)

As for Eggo and the incident he is talking about. Of course he is happy he didn't receive the big ticket. All he basically came out with was a simple infraction and a warning. I bet his story would be totally different if he had received a severe speeding ticket, racing, or wreckless driving ticket!

All the poster asked for was some advice in his situation from someone that might have been in his shoes, not to be harassed and told to "Man up"

My best advice would be to hire a lawyer they know the legal system better than the general public, which includes most people on this forum. They would be able to tell you the best course of action, and what the most reasonable outcome would be...remember it's their job to do this!! Good Luck!

Agreed. " Man Up" is such a lucky/troll response. Keep your comments to yourself if you have something that gay and purposeless to say. Thanks
