Sounds like your buddy doesn't know how to drive.
From a roll, it's hard to make mistakes.
We went from a 1st gear roll with me being in vtec giving me the advantage and we went to the end of 4th with us being even until I hit 4th..

Next time, tell him to keep his rpm at 5000 rpm before steping on it. If the M3 is SMG... DSC OFF, and put the SMG setting to the highest AND activate Sport mode .

It's a 6 spd manual that my buddy has. We went from a 1st gear roll with me at about 6500. And doesn't sport mode jus make your throttle response better and not faster?

With the SMG, in the sport mode the computer shifts quicker than non-sport mode. But otherwise with a 6-sp manual, you were correct - the sport mode only changes the throttle map.

Sport mode on SMG doesn't make the car shift faster. It is when you turn off DSC and select the shift speed to S6.

wow, im just going to wait for BMW to invent something to where the driver doesnt even have to drive! i think its possible for you to take an e46 through a couple of gears, especially with the 4.57's you have. the m3 was probably stock and wouldve caughten you soon but you cut it off just in time to keep yourself happy. haha
