E36 M3 Convertible
Just passed 600 miles on Friday and went hunting today.
Heading south on Bascom near the point it turns into Los Gatos Blvd. YES, it was an automatic and YES there were three people in the car. I did a regular launch, he stomped it and pulled about a half car that I more than made up by the end of first. Shut it down at the top of second as it was really no contest. Had at least three cars on him.
For all the great things I've heard about the E36 M3s I was not impressed. I could have given him a good run for the money in my GSR.

It was dry out this past friday (finally), and I got a chance to line up my car against what looked to be my former car, a black/black S2000. I was pretty excited, since I have not had the chance to race an S2000 except my former one before I sold it.
It was no contest, my M3 laid waste to him from a dead stop. This was on Lamar just north of 183 for you Austinites. Of course, my M3 dyno'd at 232 rwhp/234 lb ft (about 280 crank hp), so I figured that I should win.
On the other hand, I wouldn't expect a properly driven S2000 to have any problems with dispensing an M3 vert automatic with three people.

But everyone knows that stock for stock, the E36 and S2000 are very similar. My friend with an E36 beat one by only 1/2, not sure what the outcome would've been if they went more.

Automatic E36 M3 convertibles run 15.2-15.4's.
Probably not (which surprises me). I raced a member of this boards S2000 with my M coupe -- (M3 motor, higher coeffecient of drag bodystyle) and continued to pull on him from a stop until I shut it down at 130 (public roads).

Is your M coupe stock?
