Default Drop the clutch at 7k or 4k?

I'm trying to launch the car perfectly but droping the clutch at 7 or 8K seems to make the wheels spin alot. Will dropping it at 4k be faster or am I doing it wrong?
Thanks for any future response.

try 6.5 K

Also, don't go full throttle when you launch, try feathering the gas until you feel the tires hook up. It also might be the cold weather...

The prime object of dropping the clutch is to keep the engine in VTEC (6500 or highr). Dropping at 4k will just bog the engine down and you will get your tail whipped. There has been some recent discussion about launching at lower than VTEC without dropping. The principle there is to slip the clutch until you get it into VTEC and then hook up solid. That takes some practice and can fry the clutch (smells really bad) if you slip it too much. It is a toss up as to which is more harmful to your car. Slipping the clutch is potentially harmful on the clutch. Dropping at 6500 is potential hamful to the drivetrain.

NEVER drop at 4000rpms. That's what kills the drivetrain.

At 4000rpms, there is not enough polar momentum to break the tires loose, so the drivetrain absorbs all that energy from the rotating mass of the engine. NOT good...

Believe it or not, dropping at 7000+rpms is less harmful for your drivetrain, since the energy gets transformed into tire spin.

If you get too much wheelspin, try dropping at 6500rpms and modulating the throttle so that you stay above 6000rpms but not spin the wheels too much.

I've pretty much given up on this except at the track (so maybe KeithD will quit calling me Mr. Clutchdropper ). I've had my best lauches at 6.5 to 7 by dropping and pressing the gas evenly to the floor. You should get some spin and hook up perfecly at about 6500rpm. You'll know by the smile on your face when you get it right. If you drop and stomp, the wheels really break loose. My last 4 qtr mile runs I had 2.08 to 2.1 60ft times, I can't get any better than that, I don't think.

I've only tried feathering the clutch once, and NEVER again!! My clutch smelled soooo bad I thought I blew something up. Stopped the car 3 times to check everything over. The clutch still feels perfect, just like day one, but if I drive hard I get the smell back. So I think I've damaged it at least a little, and I only have 2700 miles on it.

I agree totally with Zoron too. I tried dropping at under 5K once and the tac went right back to 1.5K. The car just gave a groan and slowly moved forward. Classic bog, feels like you're in slowmo. So if you have to pick your poison, I'd recommend the drop. Otherwise I recommend getting people to race you from 20mph. No pain to the clutch there.

i have that down. if you didnt see my thread about it, my dad tought me how. i dont reall feather i more along the lines let it out fast but but not fast enough to let the tires spin. i usually do it in mid range vtec (7-7.5k.) works better than it ever did for me droppomg, but o-meter says SHIT!

if you can get it right you will notice that it takes off faster.

I was recently lined up with a fellow S2ker and dropped at 6k didnt really feather either and somewhere around mid second gear with the tires lit up and me going nowhere I relized that my SO2's were cold as it was only about 45 outside and I hadnt driven far or fast. By the time all this registered I was in third and still spinning so I let off. Lesson learned make sure your tires are warm to hot before dropping.
