I agree, some of these guys talk about about these monster benz's like they are slow, as if a 11.7 1/4 is no problem, or about how they take them out by 3 car length's...they are crazy...good to see someone else who actually gets it
I am only saying this because from what ive been hearing the new Z06's are going to be running 11'z rite outa the box meaning that a mercedes supercar and the vette will be rite there with each other in straightline. Along with that fact that sl65 is still just around a viper's level with insane amounts of more power behind it. and also I Dont own a s2k, but I own a 350z.... and with a full boost turbo on drag slicks, yes you can hit 11'z.... that is why I was expecting LOW LOW 11'z or potential 10z.... especially with 700+ pounds of torque which is insane....

Compare to the SL600 or SL55 AMG if you'd like to save $50,000+ and give up 0.3 seconds to 60MPH
who stops at 60 in a car like that? 0-60 is meaningless in cars over 200 hp, IMHO. Compare 1/4 mile time/traps to get an impression of peformance differences, because by then traction and power will differentiate themselves.

I drove one when I worked for Mercedes Benz, the torque is so much that it almost hurts. That car rips on the freeway, mash it and you will leave everything else like it is standing still. Unbelievable car!!!

Think about what you are saying, If you attached slicks to this car you could probably drop an easy .5 sec. off this car too. So you would be lucky (as I have still seen very few 350Z's even at full boost break into the 11's, closer to mid 12's, if that) to get into the 11.7 range. When you are adding stuff up saying if you put slicks on, or turned the boost up, or put nitrous in, etc. You may be able to come within the range of the 11's, but then again if you put slicks on the SL65, turned up the boost with a chip upgrade from Renntech, or strapped a 100 shot of nitrous it would again kill your car and be in the 10's. 11's on a street car is tough to get..especially on a reliable street car, not running slicks and not shortening engine/trany life substantially. Gets to a point where traction no matter how big a street tire you have is impossible. This is already happening to high hp cars like the Viper, Z06, etc. These are full blown "sports cars" made to go fast with little regard to comfort. The SL65 is essentially a GT car that is insanely fast. It is incredibly comfortable car with rich woods, leathers, power everything, cooling/heated seats, etc. If you are looking for a 3000 lb. car that does nothing but go fast then the Z06 & Viper are better choices. It's the purpose of the cars. Foolish to compare the SL65 to a Z06 or Viper just because tey go about as fast. Two completely different class of cars. As a GT car the Z06 or Viper would fall flat on their faces, around the track I'm sure the SL65 would be absolutely cumbersome.

You wont see an SL65 in the 10s. Its just too damn heavy. It may have a planetload of torque, but its moving a LOT of weight.

SL65s are doing mid-high 11s on stock tires, with 100 octane in the tank. With a modified ecu, they might knock a few tenths off, but not enough for tens, I dont think.
