Default A couple encounters

Ran into a Mustang GT at a stop light late last night. He had some sort of aftermarket exhaust. Started off normally and waited for him to go. I let him get the jump at around 30mph then proceeded to eat him up all the way to around 110. By that time there were 2 buslengths between me and him. Then he pulls a domestic ricer flyby. The two lanes merged into one and at the next light the road emerged to two lanes again. Well he wanted to go again... so again I let him get the jump and this time was even worse. He caught up to me and this time slowed down and gave my car praise. Talked to him about the s/c and he mentioned something about his mustang being 330 hp but I didn't really catch much of what he was saying. We decided to go yet again but this time I got cocky and started out at 4000 rpms in 3rd. Let him go first and I punched it, I stopped his pull immediately but only managed to creep back up and put a few cars between us.

I pull out of our development this afternoon and come up on the entrance/exit of a nice corporate center next to my neighborhood. I'm about 70 feet from the exit and a 996 Carrera comes flying out of the corporate center and puts on the brakes hard where the exit intersects the road I'm on. He is turning onto the road in the direction I am going. As soon as I pass he guns it and nearly slides into ditch on our right. He actually did a really good job of getting it back under control and immediately glues his front bumper to my rear. The road opens to two lanes a bit down the road so I drop into *edit*vtec and get ready. I look into the rearview and see this older guy in sunglasses with a huge smirk on his face. I can only imagine the sound of me downshifting was giving this guy a humungoid chubby thinking he is going to beat up on a lowly Honda. The road widens and he instantly changes lanes, I end up getting a slight head start but from the result it looked like it wouldn't have mattered. He gave up after a couple seconds, he was probably 3 or 4 cars back at that moment. He stayed back until I turned off the road.

Mods ? Sorry, but the stock/lightly modified S2000 owners that talk like they have a chance against a 996/997 Porsche Carrera in a straightline race are fooling themselves. I have raced several S2000's in the Carrera and it is not close. With a 1/4 mile time difference of more than .5 sec. that is substantial. The roll ons are even worse. I guess it was only a few seconds, but VTEC on a honda is nothing special. Some people make it soound like you got a turbo or something. Pretty much all Porsches have their version of VTEC, if not even better called Variocam Plus. BMW's do as well.

More believable now. Sorry, not you specifically, but there are a few posters here that have stock/slightly modified S2000's that talk about beating Carreras & Carrera S and that is not real possible. The differences are .5+ to 1 sec in the 1/4 mile. That is a huge difference. If you beat them, did you beat the driver, because the car when properly driven is substantially faster across the board. Unless like you they statrt putting some kind of FI on the car. That would be like a stock S2000 driver claiming he whooped up on these 290-320 whp FI'ed S2000. Just find it highly improbable.
