Couldn't pull on a Boxster
I certainly didn't lose, but I didn't pull enough to call it a kill. Definitely was a base (single exhaust tip), probably 217HP version and didn't appear to be modified. Neither of us had passengers and the only difference is that I was top down and he was top up which honestly didn't matter at the speeds we were going. We ran two times from dead stops (red lights).
First Run: I took off normal because he did not seem like the racing type. He jumped about a car and I was only able to pull even with his door by the top of second gear when I had to shut down for a car in front of me.
Second Run: I am not a fan of dropping the clutch, but I did it and immediately jumped a car. Pretty much stayed there pulling less than half a car through second and started to gain slowly at the top of third. Shut it down with about a car and a half to two cars at 90ish.
I was really surprised because I have run a Boxster S from a roll and we were dead even. I give the guy in the Boxster props because he was a good driver and hung better than I thought he would. At the same time I have no clue how an S2000 would put "4 cars by 80" on a Boxster as some have claimed unless the Boxster is the 201HP version or the S2000 is modified. Makes me wish I had a CAI because 5HP would have made a difference - it was that close.

I actually raced one from about 65-100 the other night. I was being obnoxious trying to get him to run, and finally he came up from behind going all out. I had my top down, but he had a passenger. I didn't hit the gas till I was at his back bumper, and easily pulled on him and had a car or so at 100. Of course, I do have an intake, which really helps at that speed.

If you think racing from a stop to 90mph with your top down doesn't affect your speed/time.... trust me.. it does.
On more than one occasion, I have barely lost races with the top down, and then won by 1 or 2 car lengths after putting the top up.
A good example....
I have a friend that I race all the time with an LT1 SS. From a 50mph roll to 90mph... if I have the top down, he pulls about a foot on me. If I have the top up, I pull a little more than a length on him.
Just food for thought.

Wis,
If anyone knows about racing the S2K it's you Sorry Wes, but until you get your car running.............
I stand corrected and shame on him for having his top up on such a nice night

What speeds did you run from? ... above 60mph (ie. 3rd gear and above) there's not much between them.
I give the guy in the Boxster props because he was a good driver and hung better than I thought he would.
To me, your results seem consistant with what I'd expect. The S2000 is not that much quicker through the first 2 gears ... actually the Boxster (2.7) is quicker anytime you have less then 7,500rpm on the dial. The only way to beat it to 60mph is by getting a jump on it off the line. By getting a better launch you could have got a sliglty bigger advantage and not only 'jump' out further but also put you at a higher speed (ie. pulling away slightly) through the 1st two gears.
In 3rd gear you don't spend much time bellow 7,500rpm so you you should be pulling away in this gear ... that is if you managed to either stay even (velocity wise) with the Boxster through the first 2 gears.
In 4th gear you should really blow it away as Boxster (2.7)'s 4th gear is much taller then S2000's and also you're always above 7,500rpm.
At the same time I have no clue how an S2000 would put "4 cars by 80" on a Boxster as some have claimed unless the Boxster is the 201HP version or the S2000 is modified.
It's possible to have 4 cars by 80mph .... though, it all depends on the launch as the 'launch' is the only thing that will give you a lead through the 1st 2 gears. If you stuff up the launch then the Boxster (2.7) has a very good shot at staying ahead of you through the 3rd gear.
Boxster 2.7 is nowhere as slow as some people would like you to believe .... it's no slower then a WRX (current model) from a roll and looses out to it only at the launch.
The 2.5L Boxster is a lot slower then the 2.7L.
I'm sure the boxster was modded. Anyways, those things are supposedly good for high 14s with a very good driver.
I got a magazine here where they managed 14.4 with 2 people and 1/2 a tank of fuel aboard.
With a good driver and 1 person aboard it will get into very low 14s.
ps. Roof down makes a difference above 60mph ... You probably 'lost' 5mph by 80mph (ie. if you had the roof-up, you'd be going ~5mph quicker at the time you shut down).

DavidM - Nice analysis and I totally agree with everything you said.
I ran the Boxster S from about 40 to 90. The race was as evenly matched as any I have had.
I was actually going to say something about wishing the race had gone into 4th gear because of how strong it is in the S, but I hate excuses. Bottom line is the guy gave me a good run through 3rd and I give him props.

My friend has 97,98ish base Boxster. He doesn't street race, but when we did race I killed him quite easily (from stop and highway)
I don't think he is a very good driver plus his rear set of S-02 tires looked like Michael Jordan's head at the time
