car accident last night
Me and several friends were on the freeway last night. I am the first car, followed by a prelude, a grand am, a celica, a beretta, and a camaro. We are in the left lane when the freeway cuts down to a 2 lane freeway. There is a truck that cuts between me and the prelude and is on my butt. I speed up to give some cushion, and once the freeway goes back to 3 lanes, we all move to the right lane as our exit is coming up.
However, the truck is messing with the prelude, and the guy is driving like he might be drunk... swerving and dipping in his lane a bit. The prelude has to speed up to get over as the truck and several other cars are blocking him in the left lane. I speed up, and the other cars fall back so the prelude will be able to cut over and get in. He moves into the middle lane and shortly after that, he begins to slow so he can get in the gap we've made. There is a corolla behind the prelude that also slows since my friend has dropped below the speed limit.
Then it happens. I hear a honk and look in my rearview.... the truck wasn't paying attention or something and just SLAMS into the back left side of the corolla. The corolla lurches forward and hits my friend, then it spins about 3 times in the middle of the freeway. I pull off and run over to all my friends. Everyone is ok. I run over to the corolla, and he is ok. No one got hurt. And there is no truck.... he ran. The only cars that got hit were my friend's prelude, the corolla, and the truck.
When the police come, this guy in the corolla tries to blame it on my friend in the prelude saying that he slowed down too quick/too much. However, the cop laid the smack down and explained that my friend could slow down as much as he wanted for whatever reason. Whether a dog runs in front of him, or he drops a cigarette in his lap, or he is trying to get off the freeway, he can slow down. He explained that the guy in the corolla did what he should, which is slow down. However, the guy in the truck was the only one to blame. The cop noted this on his report and told the guy flat out that it is no one's fault except the truck.
Unfortunately no one was able to get a plate (it happened so quick) however, we got the first half of the plate.... the cops said they can do a search through the DOT. It was a brown ford ranger, older model, kinda beat up.
It was just a freaky story. The friends of ours behind the truck said the truck NEVER even hit the brakes. He just slammed the corolla and just kept going. It was a younger male teenager. Whoever he is, the cops are going to find him, I'm sure.

hope they get him. i HOPE they get him and convict that bastard.
don't know if this is bad news but.....my car was hit too..in a freaking parking lot!!! i parked my car and while i was standing around for my sister to get out of her car, we all saw this guy back up and hit my car! it was me, my gf, sis and mother. RIGHT in front of us all....no more than 20 ft away.
well, the guy looked in his rearview mirror, paused and then starting driving away. to make a long story short, he told the cop and the insurance agency that my whole familly were lying and that he never hit me. in the parking lot, he said, "i wasn't going to drive off...anyways, there's no damage." WTF? there were many inconsistencies, but not enough time to explain.
anyways, the insurance agency (allstate) denied my claim and said it didn't matter that a hundred ppl witnessed it....if i knew them all. anyone known to me is unusable as a witness. WTF? so i told them i would come to their parking lot, use a bat on each of their cars IN FRONT OF THEM and say, "hey, you all know each other....i didn't do it!" he just stayed quiet for a while and then said, "i'm sorry, but i can't do anything for you."
you have the corolla guy, so your chances are great! good luck with that bastard! i HATE the laws sometimes! so many fcking sh*tty ppl get away with just about everything nowadays!

Had the same sort of thing happen to me in Nebraska about 5 years ago. Some @ss in a pickup smacked into my little Escort GT and put me up on two wheels on Interstate 80.... Just ripped the car apart. The cops were @sses and acted like it was my fault. Luckily I got most of the guys license plate and make/model info.
The cops finally caught him....the hit and run was nothing, just a $500 fine....but his insurance company dropped him. Still sucked cause they totalled the car and I owed more than it was worth.
Hope they catch the @sshole!

yeah, sometimes the law sucks my azz!!! *sigh* the damage to my car was minimal, but still, it's the pricipal of the matter. i'm still fighting it. i can't believe the guy lied to my face! i guess that pisses me off and is driving me to fight (lying to my face and giving me the "hah, i did it and you can't do anything about it"). i don't care if it was a dollar, i'm gonna fight it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SHALL PREVAIL!!!! hahahahahah

No updates yet... but I thought the cop said it was Felony Hit and Run??? Or maybe I heard wrong... I have no idea what that means anyways...
