Big ball of smoke...
Not much of a drag racer, but tonight I caught three red lights on a street with this guy in an Eclipse who really wanted to race. At the first light I just let him go, and he started acting all cocky, patting his car and such, so at the second light, I floored it and pulled way out on him as he spun his tires and I think mis-shifted. At the third light, he asked me to give him a 40 roll, so when the light turned green, we pulled to forty, and then gunned it.
The short of the race is he held even with me after I pulled ahead by half a car, but after I let off the gas, this big, huge roiling cloud of black smoke seemed to explode from this dude's car as he pulled in front, and continued to stream from his car as he accel'd for a bit to pull in front of me. It looked like he coasted for a bit, and then there was another huge plume of smoke as it looked like he accelerated.
I din't bother stopping to chat - had a date and all (man, was she pissed about the racing). All I know about the car is that it was a gen 2 Eclipse, had a 4" or so exhaust tip, and generated enough power to break traction at speed. My real question though, is what the heck caused all that smoke? It looked dark, it was thick enough you couldn't see through it, and it just kept pouring out of that car.

good runs. black smoke=poor AFR tuning among other things.
i had similar run with a boost EK hatch(i didnt know it was boosted) we started about about 40 and the only reason i stayed with him is because he was smoking the tires and backing off it. wow. too much power to the wrong wheels!!!

When they hit the nitrous oxide without a purge it will blow a large cloud of smoke from overrich conditions. This will happen until the nitrous fills the line and is available to the combustion chamber.
